Well I can't speak personally of any secret Christian rituals but it's commonly believed that the village was formerly Greek Chistians who converted to Islam in Ottoman times. I do know that in my grandmother's last years she lost ability to speak Turkish and only conversed in Greek.

thanks Mehmet...When you say lost the ability to speak Turkish what exactly do you mean?...did she revered back to christianity or only just language?...was she bilingo?

because my grandmother, before she passed away, there were times when she only conversed in english and not cypriot...She had dementia...

she was bilingual but when she had dementia she only spoke Greek. I'm not aware of any Christian practices/beliefs nor Muslim ones either.

As to whether Lourijinali are Catholic or Orthodox in origin, I don't know. I've come across both in text. Of course when I questioned my more nationalistic Karpasian mother about it she told me flatly that they were Turks, always were and always will be.
