Hi lena
I've just read you last message again...properly! only just realised what a pm is...i think....but I don't think I got it. Don't think I'm really sure how that works. Maybe its a computer class I need not badminton :-) Carrie

Oh and I didn't think you were being weird in what you asked...I just thought you were being kind and trying to help...and thanks for that

This is the official Cyprus Badminton Federation site:

http://www.cyprusbadminton.com/

Badminton in Cyprus centres around Nicosia but there is a club in Pahos, called "Emba Badminton Club" where expatriates play mainly. If you would like to come to nicosia we will be more than happy to accommodate you for some matches.

thanks for the website link Bananiot....very interesting especially the history of how badminton started in cyprus....maybe I should ask the muktar if we can make a badminton court in the community board office....omly kidding its not big enough to swing a cat!!

we would love to come to Nicosia and play sometime but its just too far on a regular basis. I'm really ashamed to admit that I havn't been to Nicosia in 15 years of visiting cyprus (13 for holidays twice a year and 2 years of going backwards and forwards every second month). I spend my working life travelling all over and I just love to stay put whenever I can. but it would be good to do this sometime in the future if we have to go to Nicosia

I'm a bit confused....does the Emba club play in Paphos or Nicosia??? We live very near to Emba... If I was fitter, I could run there...ha ha

I am gutted to hear that these hotel courts are outdoors....how on earth can one play badminton outdoors????...with the breeze I mean. Or is this normal in Cyprus...a different technique or shuttle or something

"Emba Badminton Club" is in Paphos, obviously. My friend Davy Rodgers (from N. Ireland) is trying hard to start another club and he is hoping to get the consent of a local headmaster to use the gym of a school. But, as I said, if ever you want to come to Nicosia, just send me a PM.

The Phaeton hotel is offering badminton hoping to entice Scandinavians, I presume, just like a number of hotels in the Protaras area. Obviously, you cannot play outdoors but in France, I heard, are working on a formula to start beach badminton going, using glass walls. An expensive project probably but it would lead to an exciting game, if they can make it viable.

Bananiot??? Are you a coach in that Badminton Federation? Is Dimitris still around? The other 3 of them I know gave up with it for several reasons.

Okay, Demetris Kyprianou, he is the current champion of Cyprus. He is studying in Prague at the moment. A very strong player. He did very well at the World Championships in Glasgow last June.
