Turkey thinks of itself first and everyone second and it uses all means to this end. We (the Greek side in general) think that we can counter this attitude by projecting our just cause. This does not work with Europeans and Anglosaxons. They are not into dialectic discourse.
The Annan plan with that map was a trap. In any future dispute the Turks and the British could cut off the eastern part of the Greek Cypriot Component state and then automatically the Greek Cypriot part would be the smallest part of the island. Cutting off is simple- in case of a dispute or other distubrance that might lead to an outbreak of violence the British simply prohibit the passage through their sovereign base area and that is it, Famagusa district cut off and cannot be resupplied.
Annan specifically mentions in his plan that the Old Nicosia Famagusta road would be within the Turkish Cypriot Component state, and mentioned that there could be overpasses or underpasses etc linking the two parts of the GCS. THis is not how free countries are set up.
You are either independent and free or you are not. Until there is a plan that establishes a free and independent Cyprus the problem will be there. To be free and independent first you must grow up and stop relying on false hopes like "allies", "friends" and above all "motherlands" and "guarantor powers".
To get there you remember the old rule - I eleftheria thelei areti kai tolmi. Once you apply this rule everything else falls into place.
