Name a tune you associate with Cyprus

Postby iceman » Fri Nov 16, 2007 7:16 pm

I am sure everyone has a tune they associate with Cyprus,a tune which reminds them of Cyprus...
Mine is Souvenirs to Souvenirs by Demis Roussos...
Don't know why,but where ever i am in the world this tune reminds me of Cyprus and my childhood..
What's your tune?

Not from Cyprus and do not listen to much Greek music, but the song I associate with Cyprus at the moment is 'Gigolo' by Helena Paparizou. I love the 'Greeklish' version :2guns: Awesome :!:
I believe she sang the Greek entry in the Eurovision song contest a few years back. Yes :?:

Iceman what a beautiful video . . . I was going to say something crass about how the Turks took a big souvenir of Cyprus . . . but after seeing that, and hearing the lovely song, I wilted into sublime resignation . . . 8)

And here is the Greek version of that song iceman!! Lovely song and I can see why it reminds you Cyprus.

Most of the songs are related with Cyprus or people from Cyprus.

I can see this thread becoming very special one or a disaster!

Although originally written to counter the Greek junta of 67...74, this Greek classic now probably represents the CyProb more than any other...

Epses epia esso tis patin patin tsie sfiroun tsie pia o shillosraos mes tin avlin to shirou !!
Do you know that one GR !!
The Cypriot "slang " tsiattista " , my all time greats , Oh those wonderful weddings that lasted for 3 days , and the girls all looking pretty in their best dresses , us boys having a quiet smoke away from prying eyes !!
Seriously though my all time great Greek song , one that I first heard while helping out at my uncles seaside restaurant in Famagusta , right on the beach , Alasia , VRAHO VRAHO TON KAIMO MOU , always reminds me of Alasia , had such lovely memories there , perhaps the reason I love Kourion beach so much a lot of similarities , and here is VP telling us to forget this part of Cyprus , a part that has so many memories for thousands of Cypriots ! I was born in Paphos but after the earthquake of 1953 followed by a few years in Limassol I ended up in Agios Loukas , Famagusta , hence Alasia Beach Restaurant !
It has its good points , wine has , makes you sentimental ! Cheers !

I don't think I associate any song with Cyprus unless it talks about Cyprus in some way :? But this famous tune was written by a Cypriot.

This one reminds me of a great holiday we had in Cyprus with a whole bunch of friends from the UK. I discovered Cypriot liquors and had to have one of each flavour (almond, chocolate, banana etc  ) and then I disgraced myself on the dance floor to this tune:
