I think many Cypriots are bi-lingual in Greek and English like you. For you wouldn't it be easier if you could select a date and a topic and see all related articles in both languages instead of having to do this for each language separately?
And I am not sure if people assume that content that exists in one language will not exist in another. I think that most of them will believe that the English version would be an exact translation of the Greek version.
Would you say that for you it would be a turn off if articles from both languages where together? Would you not visit the page because of this? Would the website feel messy because of this?
OK, now I see where you are coming from.
By the way, I am very fluent in one of the official languages of the RoC, but not Greek.
Leaving that to one side, it wouldn't bother me personally if there was Greek content on the page and I was only able to read the English. But then, I have lived in four foreign countries and learned five foreign languages quite well and I am trying to learn Greek these days, so I don't think my case is typical - I am used to other languages being around. I can imagine that many British expats who are used to being in a monolingual environment would find it offputting to have content floating around that they cannot relate to.
Just a thought - couldn't you have three options on the site:
1: Enable English-languae content only
2: Enable Greek-language content only
3: Enable both English-language content and Greek-language content
That way, you could make all groups of user happy. I don't know how easy it would be to build this into a site from a technical point of view, though.
