Nikitas wrote:Sener Levent is a commentator I read without fail, whenever I find his articles translated in English or Greek. He is, in my opinion, the most accurate commentator in Cyprus. The two quotes are from his article today (15 Nov. 2007) in Politis.
"It is a mistake to compare the elections on the two sides. Elections happen only in the south. They do not exist in the north. Because in the north there is no political will. And the population is not totally Cypriot. Here Ankara dictates what happens."
And further on he adds:
"Rashit Pertev [former adviser to Talat] is going through the syndrome now. He spilled the beans after resigning from the presidential palace.....The man said: "the brothels and casinos finance political parties" and no one was disturbed. No one asked about it. We wish he had asid it when he was still a presidential adviser."
It is an interesting insight into the situation in the north. And we should all think hard about how this attitude that has built up over the years will affect a post solution society.
As the south becomes more entrenched in EU procedures, the north is becoming more mickey mousey. At some point it really will be impossible to reunite. At least not on the terms of equality that we have thrust into our face every day. Not if equality means having brothel keepers and casino owners dictate to politicians.
NO shit sherlock
this is obivious and the military there also work hand in hand with drug dealers bringing over drugs from mainland turkey ...
the F.S.B have proved this twice ...like i said the sooner we close the borders and forget the north the better ...
