Advantages and disadvantages of marrying a Cypriot

Postby Talisker » Fri Nov 09, 2007 9:47 pm

I'm a Scot married to a Cypriot lady - it's been interesting! Any other non-Cypriots married to Cypriots care to compare notes on the advantages and disadvantages of this union? Here are a few of mine:

Advantages
1. She's sexy 8)
2. Mother-in-law's cooking
3. Large extended family
4. Good Cypriot holidays
5. Playing fast and loud tavli
6. She thinks she's the boss

Disadvantages
1. She thinks she's the boss
2. Understanding what was happening at our wedding :?

Conversely, what are the upsides and downsides for Cypriots marrying non-Cypriots?

Her disadvantages list would be non-existent, whereas there would be an endless list of advantages. :) Surely..........

Mixed marriages between Cypriots and British are on the whole successful , however marriages between Cypriots and Middle Eastern men , or women , are a disaster. I know of 3 such ex-marriages , all failed because the cultural and religious differences could never be reconciled . On the other hand I know of numerous Cypriot-British marriages that have lasted the test of time . My own , since 1967 and my brother's since 1962 , are just two mixed marriages that are still going on some 40 years later.

Congratulations on the longevity of your marriage Miltiades. I'm aiming for similar in my own. Do you think that British-Cypriot marriages are enhanced by the different cultures, or have you had to work hard to even out the differences?

Another question - has one of the cultures dominated the other?

Good lists DANGAMAN. Regarding 'Pros 3' - is there a nationality on Earth that doesn't claim to be 'the best lovers'?

And regarding 'Cons 2' - this is no claim to fame (says the Scotsman).

I like 'Cons 3' - this is so true. In conversations with my wife I rarely raise my voice unless angry, whereas she loves to be animated whatever the conversation is about.

3. When we talk some people think we are having a fight Especially when my dad is talking...and even worst when the phone ring
4. Time does not mean much to us, as long as we are not the ones waiting.
