My favourite film is "Brief Encounter" for its strong dialogue, and the fact it addressed how painful repressed feelings are when social conventions have to be adhered.

I also love Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" . . . for the most realistic clever detective!

I like ANY war film that shows the Yanks getting their arses kicked, there will probably be another one soon, about how they conquered Iraq, (another load of old bollocks of course !).

Phoenix - Brief encounter is also my favourite film!! I know all the dialogue off by heart (almost) and it makes me cry every time! So old fashioned - but an honest portrayal of our inermost feelings. I also love "maiden Aunt" with Bette Davis where she has to give up her own child and become the "maiden aunt" instead of the Mother as she is unmarried.

Tess, ... WOW! :D ... when I watch Brief Encounter all the dialogue comes out of my head before the actors speak . . . it is so great . . . so English.

I love black and white British movies because when I think back to the mid-60s when we moved to the UK . . . everything seemed black and white to me after the brightness of Cyprus (or was it due to the Turkish bombs, sorry, I'll stop there!).

In which case, you'll love all the "stiff upper lip" with similar adulterous idea in "Dial M for Murder".

And . . . I too love Bette Davis movies, and my very favourite is "All about Eve". The jealousies and destructiveness caused are so gut-wrenching.

The Wild Bunch, for the defiance of the fear of death.

Carlos Saura's Carmen, for the passion of Flamenco.

Blade Runner because of the good storyline and great acting from Harrison Ford, and also the action scenes.
Also Debbie does Dallas but that comes under a different catagory.

Titanic, because Leonardo DiCrappy-o dies. The rest of the movie is boring in all its iterations though, as the ship sinks every time.
