Strange Habits?

Postby skyvet » Thu Nov 08, 2007 11:41 am

I posted this thread on another forum that I visit, and got some interesting responses, so I thought I'd see what happens on CF!
I turned 60 yesterday, and got to thinking about some of the strange habits that I've developed over the years. Two examples :-
1. I always put my left shoe on first, and always take it off first.
2. Banknotes in my wallet always have to be in denomination order, and all have to face the same way.

Now, is this OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) or am I just strange? Does anyone else have any peculiarities they'd be prepared to share?

I suspect that age has not got much to do with it, except possibly the coming to awareness of certain behaviour traits. Thus, for example, teenagers with mobile phones have it seems been taken by an obsessive checking whether any one has texted in the last three nano-seconds. But are they self-aware are they of their behaviour ?
That is to say that behaviours which are now all too readily described as OCD are probably manifested in many of us from an early age. The thing is that we just don't realise them for what they are. These behaviours become classified as OCD or some such only at a time when they need to be subjected to control or 'therapy'. See Michel Foucault on, for example, 'The Birth of the Clinic' and 'Madness and civilisation.'

I wonder if O.C.D. is a fair description of one of my 'Foibles' ( which I have always considered to be more of a repetitive trait)

Whenever I bed a sweet young thing, I have this extraordinary habit of ripping the panties off 'em (which I am sure is quite annoying for them since they are obliged to leave knickerless in the morning).

Should I resist the habit, OR, purchase a job lot at 'Orphanides' ?, what does the panel think ?.
