Bitter new row between Tassos and Christofias

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Self determination = Ability to unite Cyprus with Greece = Enosis

You are not dealing with stupid franks Piratis. Our obsession with enosis brought our downfall. As clear as this! Partitionists in the Turkish Cypriot community were by far the minority but our megalomaniac aspirations and our haste to achieve enosis at all costs alienated the Turkish Cypriot and basically we played the game of the Turkish nationalists who exploited our treacherous insistence (this is treason Piratis, of the worse type) to implement our life long ambition, to achieve their own aims. You are crying, Piratis, over a dead body, because Turkish nationalism proved stronger and more effective than your own. Yet, still you play the nationalist hand and you constantly burn any bridges that might be set up between the two communities, just like your protege (who did not write the Akritas Plan, despite the fact that it was just a vehicle to ... self determination) because all you nationalists have an unquenchable appetite for blood. This in a nutshell is your problem which so far you have managed to make it our problem too, unfortunately!

The Akritas Plan was not just a document, by the way. It came with an Organisation, that was to use all means to implement it, should anyone have the cheek to ignore it. Yiorgatzis, was the leader of the Organisation and guess who was the vice leader. No prizes to be won for guessing right.

Bananiot, whatever and whosever work the Akritas plan was, it certainly cannot be regarded by all means and measures as the work of a “barbarian mind;” for it did not assume or foresee the death and destruction of anyone, set aside that of the TC community! Unless of course if you again want to play the rhetoric of the Turkish propaganda; and yet wonder again why you cannot get across any single one of your points!

Self determination = Ability to unite Cyprus with Greece = Enosis = The right of Cypriots if they so choose Democratically.

Yes, I agree that the TCs had justified fears and they didn't want enosis, but this whole issue is just the surface, the excuse.

Here is how I explained in another thread:

In the case of Cyprus the excuse to deny Cypriots their self-determination so they could slice our island up and use it as they wish, are the Turkish Cypriots.

When Cypriots had revolted against the British in the 50s, the British took full advantage of the justified fears of the TCs. They employed their well tested "divide and rule" policies, and out of the Turkish minority they created a "community" of which the approval would be required for anything to happen in Cyprus. By ensuring that the gave to this TC minority a whole lot more than what they should have, they ensured that that their "divide and rule" would last forever, since those that gained (TCs) would naturally not give up what was gained, and those that lost (GCs) would naturally want to gain back what they lost.

So say "enosis" was out of the equation. Say in the 50s all Cypriots together fought for independence. What do you think would be different? Nothing. The British would again say to the the TCs that they are not a minority but something way higher and they therefore deserve a lot more (on the expense of GCs), and again put them in a conflict with us over power sharing and apply their usual divide and rule as it was applied in many other territories they ruled.

The Cyprus Problem is not about GCs VS TCs. Thats just the surface and how those that created the problem want everybody to see it. The problem is that Cypriots are denied their self-determination and their freedom because some world and regional powers have interests on our island.

The yearning of Greek Cypriots to rid themselves of 400+ years of Ottoman/Turkish rule and their sorrow at their inability to bring about change due to their small number and lack of strength is what brought about the ENOSIS with Greece nostalgia.

Unfortunately, our forefathers thought that only by becoming part of Greece could we be protected from the very serious anti-Christian threat of Anatolia but what really failed Cyprus was in fact Greece and certainly NOT the Greek Cypriots who were constantly in a helpless and hopeless situation.

Understanding the plight of the Greek Cypriots by going further back in history than the 1950s will go a long way in your understanding of where we the Greek Cypriots were coming from Bananiot, and I think it’s about time you CEASE any further reading from the likes of Droushiotis and start immersing yourself in the 1850s to 1940s, if you haven’t already done so, and you too will then see the pain and agony that our people endured.

I don’t care how much slander and libel you can come up with against our president today Bananiot but to show TOTAL disregard towards our forefather’s cry and desperation saddens me enormously. :(

What in heaven are you talking about GR? Do you really think that we are the only people that have suffered? Have you read the recent history of Poland, lets say? Do you know that hundreds of children die in Darfour every week while we die from obesity? What is wrong with you?

Bananiot,

The GC side had the Akritas plan the TC side had the KIP plan, complete with a Turkish general and officers of the Turkish intelligence services posted to every town in Cyprus. The British role in all this? Just look at the arrest record of the time- all the GC arrested wre slung in jail, no TCs were ever jailed for membership in MIT or riots etc. One famous arrest was that of sergeant Tuna who miraculously escaped arrest and fled to Turkey, and this happened during the emergency with the curfew in force and 40 000 British soldiers guarding the ports and airport.

Both communities had a part in the mess. Both have a part in prolonging it. There is not enough joint effort to express self determination against all foreigners, even now when we all agree that the solution will be biregional and federal. Want proof, well where is the joint bicommunal stance against the presence of the SBAs unless they pay due rent? A small but eloquent example.

What does that tell you? there is no genuine desire for unification, lots of hot air but no action. The stalemate will continue, the isolations will be relaxed and we will all live our dailylives. We deserve what we get.

How is Poland and Darfour relevant? The hundreds of thousands of Greek Cypriots that died at the hands of Ottomas/Turks since the start of the 16th century are insignificant to you but the alleged Akritas plan that nobody even died from is worth mentioning almost every day? :?

Maybe it's time you had an IQ test...
