How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Regardless of what you or i think about the intervention/invasion and ongoing occupation/"search for 1960 styled government" ... the thread is about Talats comment, which to me makes no sense at all.

The Annan Plan was the only vote that took place to ask for a return to the constitution or come to an agreed solution that would have made the constitution null and void. What Mr Talat is saying is not that the period before was illegal but was reinforced by the Oxi from the GGcs and the yes from the TCs. It was only Kifeas trying to score points that said he has admitted to them being illegal before. No where in his speech does he say that. It means it is the proof and not the other way around.

Zan I think you are reading too much into tea leafs...this is what Talat said...
The presence of the Turkish military was legalized when the Turkish side voted ''yes''

He said before the TCS voted "yes" the presence of the turkish troops was illegal...

Now what makes anything legal by a one community, by voting "yes" is anyone's guess...and then at times turkey and tcs claim rights, as to the oil...go figure...it really comes down to which direction the wind blows I guess...

PS...I hope the little one recovers well...I had mine out at 13

I haven't read the thing again but where did he say the above???

Sorry mate and I understand that the statement can cause confusion and maybe he should have chosen his words carefully and maybe he did with regards to the UN resolutions, but as I have stated above....Who is Turkey going to hand back to??????No such government exists and the chance to have an agreement in which it would have done was sabotaged by Tpap......

Thanks for the well wishes and yes he is recovered well and winding me up again....He is still a bit sore though and a bit worried about the infection coming back a second time. Perhaps the surgeon should not have told him that the appendix had turned gangrenous....My son is 15 and already 6ft so it is easy to forget how old he really is...

Grammatically, legalized is past tense and the change in tense occured at the specific time of the Turkish vote. If he had said "was legal" then it would have suggested it was legal at the time of the vote. As he said "was legalized" it does suggest that before the vote it wasn't legal.

"My car stopped when i saw the red light" implies my car was NOT stopped BEFORE the red light came along.

"The residents were terrorised when the aliens landed" suggests the residents were NOT terrorised BEFORE the aliens landed.

Regardless of what he said, how he said it, what Tassos said back and how many donkeys Denktash saw in the mountains, as Eliko has stated in not so little words - its all bollocks anyway !

Perhaps we ARE just getting stuck on simple words here but the point might have also been that the UN resolution has deemed it illegal, and quite wrongly, so the past tense is correct. But Hey HO!!!!!

The presence of the Turkish military was legalized when the Turkish side voted ''yes'' in the 2004 referendum held for the peace plan proposed by then U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, said northern Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat in an interview with Greek Cypriot daily Phileleftheros published on Sunday. Talat said that he will not negotiate the withdrawal of the Turkish military, nor does he consider a unilateral move on the part of the Turkish side a “good idea.” “The Cyprus problem is not the presence of the Turkish military,” he said.

At least we should say “thank you” to Talat for implicitly admitting that at least for the initial 30 years since the Turkish invasion, the presence of the Turkish military in Cyprus was illegal! However, what we do not and cannot possibly understand is how the Turkish military occupation became legalized after the TC "Yes" in the 2004 Annan referendum? How? Any idea?

Can anyone still hold his hopes for a solution on a leader talking such nonsense!

is it not amazing how of late the Talat movement ,have been quoteing and speaking in tongues on various subjects ...much like as if his PR TEAM/management are leaving him and forcing him to panic (o shit they have ),whilst also he feels that maybe he actually the one avoiding the talks .. ask him about any talks and he always points his finger at TPAP ..really ...says you ...

this statement for example is one he will defend for months to come

honestly politicians and their agendas ...and you TC CALL TPAP a joke ....

when is the TRNC ARMY going to de mine the buffer zone ? when are they going to withdraw troops from the ledra street

if it was up to me i would re mine the area ...again

The Annan Plan would have taken care of all of that. Shame Tpap sabotaged it and pissed of the rest of the world in doing so....

Talat also claimed that he is the "true European" who constantly refuses to implement EU rules in his little fiefdom.

SO now we are at a situation where-

The European Aquis and the European Court of HUman Rights ercognises my rights to my house in Famagusta,

The UN recognises that the invasion was illegal

Talat legalises the army that prevents me from, getting to my land

Now this is some high fashion sophistry. Talat the magician has done it!

And now tell me oh wise ones of this forum, if the Turkish army in the north is legal, would that not also make the stationing of an equal or greater number of Greek soldiers in the south also legal?

Are you not seeing the message here? Either you accept by force our point of view or you can go to war. This is the message I am getting and it is surprising that so many people in this forum are getting so enhtusiastic about it. Is this what you really want?

What Talat is saying, that he has no authority, the will or the courage to tell the Turkish Military to pack up and go back to Turkey, so the next best thing he can say is, that the Turkish Military is in Cyprus legally, as a by-product of the "YES" vote.

Then again, we have all known about this for ever it seems, so what's new.???

I did not even know it was part of the package to begin with, in the AP.????

This actually came up in the meeting between Talat and PapaD.

Talat : And how do you propose I tell the Turkish Army to leave. Do you think they are going to listen to me.?

Papadopoulous: No, I do not believe they will listen to you. But you are the ones who got yourselves in that pickle, so you figure a way to get out of it.

DUMB AND DUMBER.     You guys haven't got a clue what Talat is saying

Which part of what Talat said, that you did not understand MR-from-NG.????

It appears, VP understood it well.!!!!

The message he is giving is so loud and clear, you have to be a real dumb-ass not to understand it. It seams your hatred for anything TC has blurred your vision.

Just when I begin to see some compassion coming from you towards your countryman for having their property being stolen from them with your recent statements, you revert back to your old self of accusing others of being TC haters, just because you are cornered with your lack of understanding on what it is that Talat was talking about. Your explanation of what Talat was talking about, sounded more ludicrous than Talat's statement in the first place. Why don't you do us all us a big favour and stop your charade of trying to sound compassionate toward the GC's, their loss and your wish for a peaceful settlement. Many times in the past you have already given us your true feelings towards the GC's, and the fact that you continue to make accusations towards me as being TC hater for questioning Talat's intentions, only goes to prove that you are not at all sincere with your concerns to the GC refugees.

Why don't you stick to what you do best by being a "Pomp Pomp Cheer Leader" to the Fanatic Partitionist, who's views are best suited with your own.
