I have (partly) read that, song lines running through Australia . . . major bore . . . total fiction . . . nothing to do with Greeks, thank you.

But how did you swing onto this when you were making some ridiculous claim to have invented the bagpipes :?

Even the Scots for whom it is their National instrument, would be the first to concede to the bagpipes origin's as Hellenic . . . yet the arrogant Turks have to attempt to take that away from the Greeks too.

You managed to convince the world that the people you were killing wee the guilty ones and now want Hellim to be Greek and Turkish taken out of Turkish delights so you can claim that too......How are we to believe anything about you when you invade Troy and all of a sudden it is Greek.....Crete??? Macedonia?????   Yogurt for fucks sake is a Turkish word and we have Sainsbury's selling Greek yogurt......It tastes like shit by the way.....

Zan stick to some facts, and to the topic under discussion, your mind lacks discipline . . . reign it in, it is all over the shop.

The Greeks did not have to convince anyone of anything. The rest of the World chose to believe what they wanted from the Greeks . . because on the whole, these things turned out to be very useful in helping them have a better civilisation. The Turks chose to resist the logic and reason of the Greeks and now they are fighting to be recognised as civilized, way into the 21st century
As for yogurt, Greeks have never claimed it, Europeans just prefer the Greek version . . . Yogurt has in fact been "invented" many times all over the world due to spoilage of milk

The origins of yogurt lie in the isolated Caucasus mountains of Russia, but to-day this milk product has a prominent place in the dairy case of most grocery stores. Yogurt was one of the first foods that was promoted widely

I have realised that many people on the forum do not have the ability to take conversations from days gone and those even from other threads and put them together to make an argument go further. When they do, it seems you have not got the ability to keep up with it.....

As for your argument about Greeks and a better civilisation.....All a mater of perception and again the Greek art of convincing Arabs to buy sand...A friend of mine was boasting about the British bringing the industrial revolution to the world and as luck would have it the news was reporting global warming at his shoulder on the TV at the same time......An abrupt stop to his boasting was witnessed.

I thought you knew about chemistry......Yogurt...Milk spoiling????? :?

Before you over-inflate your ego with self congratulations, take the log out of your own eye Zan. Not everyone has the dubious honour to offer undivided attention to the forum.
But how you can say that, with the evidence of my bringing in extra info. from another thread which you have deleted  but is still on my original post, is beyond my ability to comprehend the extent of your ignorance

Acquisition of Hellenic teachings is not a matter of perception whether you slur it or not. You are not the judge of the World. It is precisely this kind of stupidity by the Turks that held back civilisation by enslaving the Greeks for hundreds of years.

Not just chemistry :D as a Microbiologist, I would classify yogurt as "milk-spoilage". You take fresh milk, you add the right bacteria and they convert it into yogurt, after they have digested it and excreted their products . . . YUMMM !

I will join Phoenix while the lady is on the wrong thread. I tasted many yogurts for sale in the UK and the best I found was the Brand name Mediterranean produced bay Lanitis - Cyprus.

Now the shepherds who produced this milk to make the Cypriot yogurt had their rucksacks made of sheep-skin. I wonder why they never thought of sticking a Zurna (reed pipe) in it to make a Cypriot bagpipe? What a missed opportunity. As the Cypriot culture is older than the Hellenic one , we-Cypriots- missed our chance of being ahead of the Greeks in playing the bagpipes. Damn it. We missed our chance here.

Regards.........PHoenix, can I have my PMs back please,(the astray ones)

Deniz, the reason for that was, the Cypriot shephard was smart, he played the pithkiavli 'cane flute' and used the sack to carry his olives, halloumi and zivania in.

Deniz dear, notice that the earliest bagpipes, although attributed to the Hellenes, were found in Egypt . . . I reckon they were stolen by the Greeks from an unwary Cypriot whilst on a fuel stop in Cyprus on their way to Alexandria

I love the yogurt in the little terracotta pots, don't you?

We called the 'sack' 'dagarcik'. I brought one over from Cyprus. But not the sheep fleece with all the wool still intact. I think it was a goat. I used it once in Oxford street. Passersby were bemused as a few dogs were following me and sniffing the 'goat'. I never used it again. It hang underneath my best Cyprus photographs for years together with my Saz. We used to be experts at making the 'kaval or what you referred to as 'pithkiavli'. Our sheep were good afficianodos of good music.

Did I really send you weird PMs. I am pleased you deleted them. I thought you were joking> I used to buy the earthenware potted yougurts, but hte prices were exorbitant due to their weight. My wife uses the empties for her smaller flowerpots. Lanitis is doing a good job , I must admit for the promotion of Cypriot yogurt. That is YUMMY.

The other day I had a go at a promotions person in Sainsbury's. The lady was promoting 'real' yogurt. You must have come accross the ones, for kids, full of sugar and 'fruit'. I had to tell her she did not know what real yogurt was. Security nearly kicked me out. I taught my grandchildren and they love the real stuff.

I did not once claim that the bagpipes were a Turkish invention. Its like Turkish coffee. Named Turkish by the Europeans. Turkish Delight. Named Turkish by the Europeans. We used to call them straight - coffee or lokum/lokoumi.
