Sadly I am once again reminded of some nastier sides of forums.

Speaking from personal experience, too often have I witnessed people making a first posting just to say something nasty ... to harass or threaten.

IMHO I beg of you, should we not preserve the spirit of the forum from erosion by litigious-minded individuals out for easy / fast bucks?

Isn't it a public place for the discussion of ideas and opinions, the exercise of free speech?...

How safe do you feel on the forum?

Are you aware that there are a growing number of people out to entrap the unwary so that they can file lawsuits for monetary gains?

How can we preserve the Spirit of the Forum from such sharks?

All in my humble opinion and entirely without prejudice ....

Oracle, I have just figured you out, in 'my humble opinion'. You are definitely Eliko in disguise, in 'my humble opinion'.

Another forum peccadillo ....

I had better put an end to that rumour before he "sues" me for copyright infringements to his character name ....

But I must say in my / our humble opinion(s) ... I think Eliko has a lot to teach us about the necessity to remind those "litigious" types (mentioning no names and having no one in my humble mind) that by participating in the forum we have to adopt its spirit ....

..... Really Deniz, what say you (without prejudice) to the way the forum / world is going?

IMHO  (Copyright Oracle ... without prejudice! :D   8) )

Without prejudice and 'in my humble opinion' we all have contributed to the ups and downs/high level and debasement of this forum. Some members have been contributing to this undulation of taste positively and some in a negative way. Overall its a great place to discover each of our pecadillo's, I certainly have gained a great insight into the psyche of the minds of Cypriots and other interested groups. I love it. Its as bad as a sketo, very addictive. Ask my wife, when my PC is down, I am even downer

Unfortunately there is a lot of propaganda and misinformation. These are easily 'outed'.There are a lot of beliefs, which are in themselves unbelievable. There are many (both sides) who are brainwashed (brain-dead more likely) and as we say - Nuh der, peygamber demez. Rough translation is 'he calls him Noah, but not a Prophet. My interpretation of this is, we have the same' prob in hand' but have different perspectives, with only our own interests at heart.

Enough from me today, of to help with a funeral.

Zorba the Turk ( of Gallinoporni/Kaleburnu) has passed away. No jokes please.

i didn't read this whole thread. being 7 hours behind CY time, by the time i get to a topic, you all have already discussed it for 8 pages, and i just don't have the time to read it all. so on to the original question--i am here to learn about CY and the Cypriot ways. 3 years ago i didn't know jack about CY, and i couldn't find it on a map if you paid me. now i am very aware of who you are and what the attitudes are in CY. it's a bit scary sometimes! LOL

denizaksulu, I feel I must vigorously protest your assumption that I am a figment of 'Oracles' imagination (or a character of her invention) if that BE your assumption.

A great deal of that which I comment on is based on sound experience, other than that, my views are generally influenced by my ability to 'read between the lines' when informed of events taking place in the regions of conflict ( of which there are many) mostly generated by the same evils which have engulfed the Middle East regions ( I refer to lies, deceit and politico/military bullying stratagems ) NOT the actions of those that choose to resist them, for they have no other choice other than abject capitulation and they are far too courageous to accept that.

A trip to the regions of Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and various other regions might serve to enlighten some of those who rely on the 'Gutter Press' as a basis for their information, such persons should not be engaged in argument or debate, merely pitied, the poor saps.

In my humble opinion of course.

Reading between the lines in true Eliko style  (please remember we are not as one! .... I have developed a nervous " " tick and have adopted the safeguard of his "IMHO") ... I thought there was something wrong with your style today ... And OK there is a lot in your post, but I will respect your wishes and avoid cheap jibes.

Deniz ... I hope everything went well and when you are back, if you want to share we are all ears and eyes ...

Hugs

Another woman who thinks like myself, that playing with computers is preferable to watching TV .....

So for all those "young-uns" that think this is just their domain ... get used to it, it was our generation that started the Internet and we are going to play with it all we like ... :P

Where are all the older female geeks?

Since starting her blog, Natalie d'Arbeloff has found that she is not the only older woman in the cybervillage. But they are still in the minority. Come on, she says, what are you waiting for?

Friday June 13, 2008
The Guardian

If you are of a certain age, the generation that passed the half-century a while back, and you don't fancy spending your rapidly dwindling time watching television, playing bingo or doing any of the other things that oldies are expected to enjoy, why aren't you sitting in front of a computer wasting your time in a creative way, like me? Maybe you are. I'm a very enthusiastic computer geek myself, and I know I'm not the only one in the village - but it would be nice if there were a whole army of us, stirring up cyberspace with the wisdom, grumpiness, sexiness and devil-may-care bolshiness that our long life-experience has awarded us.

A report last year, which analysed Britain's media consumption patterns, revealed that a quarter of all internet users are over 50, but that 80% of internet surfers over 65 are men. Another report found that older people and those on lower incomes felt alienated from digital life, and the older groups were especially frustrated by the lack of clarity in the information given to them about technologies. But there are older women out there who are finding a space for themselves online. Penelope Farmer (or Granny P on her blog, Rockpool in the Kitchen), author of, among other things, the children's book Charlotte Sometimes, lives in Lanzarote."I blog because I'm a writer and it's what I do - to be read not least - and because in a kind of exile it's a means of making and keeping friends," she says. She writes about "life as an ageing expat on a Canarian island with goats, chickens and a mad professor. About ageing, grief, love, life. Not a geek me, just a long-term show-off. Duck to water, really."
