I see it as a two / multi - way communication sanctuary for people that need to air their thoughts.

The main recreational alternative, television, is best suited to passive observers.

I don't use it in the same way. I use it as a light relief and chatting with other members. When VW posted he always made me laugh (where are you VW - you're missed!!). It was also useful for me before I moved to Cyprus for questions I had.

I personally prefer not to have heated discussions or be bothered with members that throw insults on a forum. I keep that to having discussions over dinner with friends after a few glasses of wine.

Another useful aspect was the fact that it removed any 'rose tinted spectacles' I may have had very effectively!

Well I wasn't suggesting that "heated" would be the only outcome of participation . . .

But on the other hand, peeling back the layers of thoughts, there are some deeply buried ones that are not for the dinner table, no matter the quantity of wine. :D

Phoenix you appear to have more deep and complex issues that naturally mean a lot to you. I (fortunately for me) have been protected from such unhappy experiences that many members have had on this forum. I'm not saying I don't have problems, everyone does but they pale into insignificance.

The last 'heated' discussion I had was with you and you really p**d me off!

I'm getting out of here. I feel a tempest brewing. No scratching and pulling of hair girls.

No Deniz not what I was saying at all! I quite like Phoenix now - she's mellowed............ a little.

Thank god (sorry) for that. We have two lovelies here. As to the mellowing bit, I'd be cautious. When Phoenix comes out guns all ablaze, I just have to duck.

They are not all unhappy experiences that I air :D

But everyone's problems are real problems, they are no less significant because somebody else also has a problem.

As for our "heated" discussion . . . I actually thought I was breaking the problem down for you into cope-able segments (that's how I solve dilemmas) . . . go back and have another look on that (?locked  ) thread and my first post.

Unfortunately, your reaction was based on your assumption that I was male and you did not want to be told your options . . .

Most of the time, we as girls, do not want a solution to our problem from an outsider . . . we just want the sympathy and understanding that comes from sharing an experience.

Anyway . . . I do that a LOT in real life, p*** people off! . . . hence why I pick on forumers . . . get all the kicks without the knocks

We ate very well and drunk too much, red wine, ouzo and finished a bottle of zivania and at midnight Bir was playing the tambourlek and myself on the piano.

 Sounds good! I can play the tambourlek too if only people would stick around long enough to listen... :(

Have you tried playing that near the "border" . . . could solve the Cyprob!

The bagpipes might be a better idea to play at the green line but I fear that it will just widen on both sides... :?

I come here to find out what the "other side" thinks. Also to see Greek Cypriots discussing normally taboo subjects like double union and partition.

Not having the person there, in the flesh, means no interruptions, constantly to remind yourself that you do not know who is behind the words- they may be old, young, male, female, very educated or not so much. So you must focus on the words and the ideas and from there try to "psyche out" the other person.

Entertainment? Sometimes it is, like when someone (cant recall the name now) accuses us all of being "silly feckers" , sometimes it is upsetting. Mostly it is informative about people and above all Cypriots. It can be bloody hard work at times too!

That's based on the assumption that the "other side" can think! :?

Give us a break GR: I am, therefore I THINK, I think.

as for the bagpipes and if what they say is true that they are derived from Turkish bagpipes, please do carry on you will get a big crowd from the settlers. Make sure you tune it right as you have been warned of Zans stockpile of missiles to throw.

How could you try and take that away too? :(

The bagpipes and presumably now, your Turkish version of them, are direct derivatives of Greek pan pipes . . . . :P
