President Mehmet Ali Talat has announced that he is sending a letter to the UN Secretary General in response to the Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopoulos’ latest speech at the United Nations in New York.
The President said that his letter – which is to be sent to the UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon – will be circulated as a UN document.
Speaking on the AKIS programme on BRT, President Talat stated that efforts on the Cyprus issue are expected to regain dynamism after the presidential elections in South Cyprus.
The President added that another meeting between him and Mr Papadopoulos could be held before the elections in February.
Referring to the UN Report issued right after the 2004 referenda on the Annan Plan, Mr Talat said it depends on Russia, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, for Mr Ban to take some action on the report.
