I agree with you. Instead of looking at a bright future for their country they are digging up the past and the blame games start!! I believe in a united cyprus and that everybody can life in a EU country with all their rights protected. :D

I don't know if anyone ever suggested this before but what is we set up an online negotiatian team, with committees just as they are in real life. It would be intersting to see the points where we all get stuck and the points we all can agree on. Each side will choose within themselves who will be the "chief negotiator", the committees will come up with the drafts and the chiefs will discuss the points of conflict.

What does you tink?

Its easy to figure why the past gets brought up. Greek Cypriot want their home back then Turkish Cypriots say no and make the past an excuse. Then the arguments about the past begin.

Here are the questions to be answered:

1.) How do we guarantee the same rights for everybody?
2.) How will the properties issue be dealt with?
3.) How do the cypriots (GC and TC) get rid of the guarator states?
4.) How many settlers will stay and how will the others be compensated?

Answers:

1.) Cyprus is and will be a member of the EU which guarantees same rights for everybody.
2.) Properties that are not used should be returned to the rightfull owners or be compensated by the EU and the G8
3.) No more interference from other countries. (guarantor states are not needed)
4.) All settlers that arrived after 1980 and are not married to a TC should leave the island and be compensated.

After that we all drink coffee together....tell jokes and have a fine diner and talk about the future and how everybody can benefit from the Monaco Cyprus will become. :D

So long as I don't have to make the coffee . .... I agree we can play at negotiating.

Do we first have to have a meeting to decide on who this "chief negotiator" should be?

.... but don't assume there will be points of conflict before we have even started xxNilxx ... Ooopps ... I mean umit :D

I was a bit surprised by the comments that followed Umit's post....he is not that new member and he is been posting for few months now and if I am not wrong frequently the last 2 months...some of the members welcomed Unit like he is a new member...I was wondering how much they care about this forum since they dont know who is posting or not and what.

Umit we been through this discussion so many times. This is a forum with some thousands of members and some hundreds as regular members and even less who visit the forum on daily or weekly base. All of us we have our opinions, ideas, believes etc etc I doubt if any of us joined the forum to change his/her opinion or to change others opinions...but through some discussions we tend to do it ...try to convince people that what they say is not right or by listening others knowledge or ideas we might change some of our ideas.

I agree that arguments do not lead anywhere but I guess we are human beings, with different personalities and at some point we cannot avoid those arguments.

Has anyone understood anything from all these arguments?

Postby bill cobbett » Mon Apr 07, 2008 10:48 pm

Someone looking in for the first time on some of the vitriolic and sometimes pretty personal exchanges in the TurkProb pages would be forgiven for believing that we are going around in circles, rehashing the same old arguments and opposing points of view from 30 odd years ago in the newish medium of the internet. I am of the view however that this forum, has brought members of both communities (and our friends) a little closer, together.

Let me put it to you this way. If members with opposing views meet (and perhaps they do already), I would suggest that they are likely to greet each other as old friends and when people see each other in this light then all good things are possible and this is brought about by our frank exchanges here which leads to a better understanding of the other person's view. At the very least we might be able to settle our differences or agree to differ peacefully (unlike previous generations).

So I think I have learnt a great deal from my time as a member. It truthfully has been very valuable to me, and probably the greatest revelation to me is that although some members take a stance that is very opposed to mine, that, ever, ever so slightly below the surface they are pretty decent and good and human people and perhaps they feel the same way about me and this despite the fact that I very occasionally insult and offend them and vice-verse.
