How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hey T_C . . . I assumed this was for GR! since it was after his post . . . and since I'm sober today ( don't tell Pyro but I had some wine last night at the Halloween party and was too carefree to stop myself posting  ) . . . I can see it was regarding my comment to Andros.

That's really kind of you. He died a few years ago and was over 80, so can't complain on that front . . . just that he was so passionate about Cyprus, and yet such a gentle man . . . who had many TC friends and was far more tolerant than I am.

He could never understand why it turned out the way it did with TC and GC at opposite ends of the country instead of together as normal Human beings . . . .

The settlers from Turkey were given full "TRNC" "citizenship", they are not immigrants like the Sri Lankans and the the Pontians

I don't see what difference that makes. Turkish immigrants have been here a long time. I think EU rules say that legal immigrants have the right to remain after being in a country 5 years. This seems humane. Turkish immigrants came here following the rules laid down by the de facto government so it seems both humane and reasonable that they should stay. I don't think that anyone other than GCs would support them being rounded up and expelled.

That they should stay is not a wish of mine. It is just recognition of what exists.

I never reply on political things, but I believe this is semi-political, this is more like predicting what is going to happen. This is what I believe will happen. Apologise if any of you people don't agree.

What is going on?
Northern Cyprus will become ever more popular and eventually many will vacate and reside there. Northern Cyprus as time goes by will become more and more independant, eventually I feel that there will be some revolt against Turkey, not from GC but from TC in Northern Cyprus. The TC will eventually take control and will no longer need Turkey. As time goes by the TC and GC will mix and hopefully it will turn to one country again, where two communities can live together.

Is the International Community Trying to Promote Northern Cyprus?
Yes!! It is treated as almost a separate country attached to Turkey.

What has Northern Cyprus got to do with the Republic of Turkey?
Well Turkey currently runs, protects and guards Northern Cyprus. It's unofficially theirs. Northern Cyprus does has v.little to do with TC, but has more to do with Turkey.

Interesting you should say that, because in the last month I have met two, completely non-political GCs living in or close to Kyrenia.

One is retired, and just says that he prefers living here. The other is a younger woman working in a beauty salon that my wife uses. Both say that no-one gives them any problems, though people are surprised on first meeting them. Perhaps this is the future. People make up their own minds where they want to live and ignore politicians.

TRNC IMPORTS AND EXPORTS
The Economy and Tourism Ministry’s Department of Commerce has announced the figures recorded for exports and imports in the first 8 months of the year.

According to the figures, vehicle imports have the largest share of the total imports while citrus products constitute a major part of the TRNC exports.
The figures reflect a %2 increase in imports and a %18 in exports in the first eight months of the year.

According to the figures released, 899.3 million US dollars worth of products and goods were imported in the same period, this reflects a %2 increase in the imports of the Republic compared with the figures of the same period last year.

60.1 million dollars worth of products and goods were exported in the first 8 months of 2007.

This reflects a %18 percent increase in the exports of the Republic compared with the exports of the same period last year.

Most of the imports and exports of the TRNC are for and from
Turkey.

I have met many TC in Southern Cyprus at hospitals, around mosques and working and they have never given me problems.

I find that if non are provoked ALL Cypriots will get on fine. It will be a good day if the deliberate provokers just disappeared, so we could live our lives in harmony. Do we begin with all politicians?

Andros,

There is a lot of fear in your original post. You have to see things in a cool headed manner. It is true after the Republic entered the EU there is a lot of fuss and talk about the so called "isolation" of the Tcs.

If however you examine closely this so called "isolation" there is practically nothing in which they are isolated that causes any serious effects to their well being. Multinational companies operated in the occupied from as long as I remember. They are doing exports and imports either directly or through Turkey. They have the option to do direct exports through the Republics ports-they just don't do it because it's more profitable and convenient to do them through Turkey.

They are only ISOLATED POLITICALLY because the occupied is an illegal state.I am absolutely certain the Europeans will do everything possible to limit even the few minor obstacles the TC people (AS INDIVIDUALS, NOT AS CITIZENS OF A STATE) living in the occupied now face. Like bringing their Universities to the Bologna Standards etc. Then what???
It makes me laugh seeing almost every TC in this forum of getting over-excited thinking that the next step will be their recognition

The best the occupied areas can ever hope to become, is not even a Taiwan model. There is no China around for them to become their commission Agents doing their exports without themselves producing anything. There is no US dollar in the occupied to make them stand as a Financial center. On the contrary there is already a financial and bussiness center in the free areas of the Republic, which not even neighbouring countries can compete...

Furthermore you have to understand the dynamics of existing situations. Today most of the economy in the occupied is making money just because they are not recognised. (6000 Tcs make a living by working in the free areas, a lot of international crooks hiding in the occupied with all their money, the cazinos controlling drug trafficking, prostitution and money laundering, plus of course the selling of stolen GC properties.). So even if they get recognition on the plate they will not know what to do with it, they will have to reject it, or their economy will collapse. They do need someone to stand by their side to be able to get out of the dynamics of their existing situation. And these can only be the GCs in an agreed solution.

In conclussion, just sit back, relax, and watch. Nothing dramatic is gonna happen.

Problem is, “Andros” has expressed the same “concern” far too many times and in ever-inventive ways!

We should expect to get a lot of these bogus “concerned citizens” from now on and right up to the elections posting on the forum.

I don't have a problem people promoting other candidates but to do so by elevating the "TRNC" is the lowest of the low so Just let such traitors have it!
