I think they must focus on a landmark in front of them, then re-focus on that every time they spin around, and that stops them getting dizzy (same as in ballet). :P

If you are trained properly, you need not get dizzy. You only get dizzy if you allow your awareness to dissipate. While the speed with which you turn is gradually increased your concentration is focused at only one area. You could try it . Its so easy. Female whirling Dervishes among the Nahsibendi followers of the Mevlevis have been attending semas for quite a while. But I still thank Phoenix to bringing this to our friends attention.
Celalleddin Rumi had called all peoples to his Sema's (whirling dance) whether they were Muslim, Christian and Idolaters. He was a Humanist and everybody was welcomed at his ceremonies to partake.

Regards

Deniz,
Celalleddin Rumi he also said ,
Come, Come again !
Whatever you are...
Whether you are infidel, idolater or fireworshipper.
Whether you have broken your vows of repentance a hundred times
This is not the gate of despair,

This is the gate of hope. Come, come again..

Rumi is one of my favouites,

If you are irritated by every rub,
how will your mirror be polished?

********************
when a candle flickers in darkness, the moth flies
into the flame and is consumed. The candle of god flickers in the darkness of the world; let us fly towards the flame, and be consumed by gods love.

Poems From Mevlana Rumi
http://www.mevlana.ws/modules.php?name= ... le&artid=2

Drink all your passion,
and be a disgrace.

Close both eyes
to see with the other eye.

Open your hands,
if you want to be held.

Sit down in this circle.
-------------------------------------------

If you haven't left child's play,
how can you be an adult?
Without purity of spirit,
if you are still in the middle of lust and greed
and other wantings, you're like children
playing at sexual intercourse.
They wrestle
and rub together, but it's not sex!

The same with the fightings of mankind.
It's a squabble with play-swords.
No purpose, totally futile.
