MEASURES AT CROSSSING POINTS AGAINST FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE

Precautionary measures have been taken at all border-gates between the TRNC and South Cyprus following the detection of a case of foot-and-mouth disease at a farm in South Cyprus.

As part of the measures, pedestrians and vehicles crossing the border are being disinfected to prevent the spread of the disease into the North.

Stringent controls are also being made at crossing points to prevent the entry of meat and dairy products into the TRNC.
The Director of the TRNC Veterinary Department Nazim Akcaba told reporters after on the spot inspections at border gates that the measures were necessary as the disease could easily spread to the TRNC.

Explaining that vehicles and pedestrians crossing the border are being disinfected, he said officials are carrying out strict inspections of all vehicles and pedestrians to prevent the entry of meat, meat and dairy products into the TRNC.
Mr Akcaba said that the measures will remain in force until the risk of the disease is eliminated.
Meanwhile, a total of 76 farms in South Cyprus have been put under quarantine after the detection of a case of foot-and-mouth at a farm.

Earlier, samples taken from the farm where the disease was detected - were sent to a UK-based laboratory for analysis and results are expected to be announced tomorrow.

The Foot and Mouth Disease is an infectious disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals, in particular cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and deer.


Laboratary RESULTS will be ANNOUNECED TODAY.

Is the title incorrect? its a fact, this you cannot deny GCs are being disinfected at border crossings. Why are you so offended didnt hear anyone complian when it was the other way around and GCs were disinfecting us.

When were the GC's disinfecting us? If my memory serves me right the "disinfecting" process was applied to everyone traveling from north to south (regardless of their ethnic background) Just as it is being done today to EVERYONE traveling from south to north...

More NICOSIA, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Authorities in Cyprus were investigating a suspected outbreak of foot and mouth disease at a farm in the southeast of the island, the Agriculture Ministry said on Friday.

A 3 km temporary control zone was imposed around the sheep farm and other farms nearby, close to the southern coastal town of Larnaca.

"Veterinary services yesterday found ... animals with a positive indication of foot and mouth disease," Agriculture Minister Photis Photiou said in a written statement.

Samples were sent to a European Union lab overseas and conclusive results were expected next week, he said.

Foot and mouth is not a risk to humans but can be devastating for animals. The highly contagious virus, which is airborne, causes sores on the hooves and mouths of animals, reduces meat and milk production and interferes with reproduction.

Would that be the same Lab. that accidentally released live "foot and mouth" in the U.K. over the Summer?

Is that the way UK is supporting the North? They can keep their support and their 'foots in their mouths'.

Well VP has a lot of issues.

This is the first time I have seen TCs scold one of their own . . . and in my eyes that has done more good than any amount of reverse-propaganda could ever do.

We think more like each other than I had ever deemed possible.

To this date I thought only the GCs criticised each other because of the type of people they are . . i.e. out for truth above all else.

But in this thread, you TCs have proved that you value righteousness above the need to stick together and as far as I am concerned, that means a lot.

Let's carry on from this, sticking up for the truth above personal preferences.

COULD IT BE BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT KNOWS THAT IN A FEW WEEKS SOME OF THEM ARE CALLING FOR A STRIKE FOR COMPENSATION AND MORE $$ FOR AID ,DUE TO WATER SHORTAGES ,NONE PAYMENTS ON TIME BY ORPANIDIES ETC ...
