If it is supposedly o.k. for boys to go and screw around,but not girls,who are they supposed to do it with then?Or is this an excuse for conveniently accepting that certain women are supposed to be whores,as long as it's not our daughter, sister or relative etc?
Another question: even my next door neighbours cat understands that the so called cabaret'artistes' come here to work as prostitutes and not dancers etc. so why don't the authorities just stop issuing visas under this category and close the cabarets down as a result,instead of pretending that they are taking action against prostitution by having occasional raids like they did a couple of weeks ago,having no doubt warned everyone there in advance,or arresting loads of girls in Nicosia and Larnaca like they did last Sunday when they were having their day off from their duties as maids etc.alleging they had been 'touting' for customers in public etc?
Further more,if these girls are really coming to work as 'artistes and dancers' as their visas state,why do they have to have medical checks for Aids etc before they can start work?
Or do people in England who compete in shows like 'come Dancing' also have to take Aids tests first???

Not all girls turn into "whores" if given some freedom. But if they wish to capitalise on a hole in the market, that is their business.

Are you advocating that the Cypriot authorities should pre-judge and assume guilty, any woman that applies for a visa who can also dance ?

It was exactly the same in the 1950s. The girls came from Anatolia, bought for a song by the pimps. The only cabaret in Nicosia that did not practice open prostitution was the Chanteclair, where families went for the entertainment. There were also open brothels, pure and simple, in Tanzimat Street, where the clients risked all sorts of dire consequences for their 4½ piastres for a quickie, up to 2 shillings for a more relaxed one. Never frequented such establishments, but the "girls" were often middle-aged, revolting, fat women with hennaed hair.

I don't know whether they are still there, but there were some old cannons made by the German firm Krupps, on the walls parallel to Tanzimat Street. These were put there by the Ottomans in the 19th c.

And if you have something different to show to the world do it by respect to the different so someone may respect your different.

World history thought every culture does not have to show something absolutely perfect and you must get used to that idea for a start.

And like niki have said, that is needed is a balance and because of your geography a balance between west and east is an even more difficult and important goal.

Having spent some time socialising with my friends and relatives that live in Cyprus, this idea that girls have no freedom isn't very true, in fact in all my experience girls actually have very few limitations when it comes to socialising. You'll see just as many girls as boys going out on a Saturday night to a local bar or club, often staying out until the early hours of the morning. And this idea that local girls often marry the first guy they come across is not really true either. Most of the couples I know who are engaged or have got married, have been with each other for years, and the girls have often been in other relationships before they eventually settle down. However, there is still this hypocrisy. Guys can definitely get away with far more than girls .About the cabarets, the one thing that really disturbs me is that most of these so called ‘prostitutes’ come to Cyprus through the illegal sex trade that operates throughout Europe, which means that most are kidnapped and forced to sell their bodies against their will. So the more men frequent these places the more demand there is for girls, and so the trade continues. In my humble opinion, the government does have to do more..

Sex is not just for reproduction...compare the amount of times you've used it to reproduce with the amount of times you used it in a "social" manner!!!!!

I'm gay myself but I've been in some VERY uncomfortable situations in the distant past with Cypriots, some were just too distant to be considered normal!!!

The Cypriots are just tooooo sexual. It can be "cute" sometiems but some of them go over the edge.....

And now we are speaking about me? What is the use of that? I’ve tell you my general view. As about me I always have a loyal relationship and I mind my own business. I’m not married and I doubt that I will be soon but I try to enjoy life with my women as much as possible.

Actually there is no wondering why the Cypriots are last in the culture issues in Europe like the recent research result but you are not hopeless, you are just realizing Europe that had evolved a long time ago from the stage you are in the present time, there is nothing to shame about (there are other things that you should) and you should abolish your complex.

Of course the religious maniacs are hopeless where ever they are, but this is not something that can control your future for any longer at our times.

In our days where the information is traveling faster than the speed of light and more massive than the divine inspiration, there is not much that the religions can do to keep destroying our brain cells.
