Postby ALISON » Sun Oct 28, 2007 12:42 am

Could i please ask What are peoples thoughts on Meroni (think thats right) we have seen a property there that looks interesting. We don't want new and are probably gonna rent for a yr but then we noticed a house in this village. We have been restling between villages situated in Paphos area as it's so beautiful and then Protaras as it's cheaper, i think this is somewhere inbetween?? could be wrong though

The village is called Maroni, it is between Limassol and Larnaca. 20 minuites drive each way and about 40 minuites to Nicosia. A friend of mine just bought a house there which will be finished in April.

If you are going buy make sure you stay on-top of things. Some developers are not professional, never pay them the full amount until you have completely finished with them (you need to be 100% happy), or else they will ignore you if you find any problems. Even to the last stage of putting furniture, air-conditioning, ovens and so forth. Most of the come with a one-year builders guarantee, however they only seem to honor this if you owe them money.

Go to a solicitor before purchasing, I promise you won't regret it. There is a good English solicitor in the Larnaca district is Claidis, he is a British Cypriot so you should be able to communicate just fine with him. Go to www.klydescarter.com for more details. But remember, don't completely pay the developers off until you are 100% happy with them, trust me on this one! This goes with anything in Cyprus. People don't work for the job, they simply do it for the money, and if you have given it to them well you can guess what’s going to happen to the job.

Good Luck.

I have friends in Maroni. If you are buying from P., N., or M. Neocleous, they are pretty reliable, at least by local standards. OTOH, there is a development there that has a less good reputation.
