How refreshing to hear an experience that is finally more like the ones I have had in Cyprus. :D

The disgruntled persons are generally such a miserable lot that their misery will follow them wherever they go . . . so Cyprus doesn't need them.

My experience of the medical care has so far been good. I have a fantastic doctor for my girls and most problems have been sorted out quickly.

I guess it's about finding the right people - same anywhere!

You are so right Niki , I have a doctor that looks after my wife when she is in Cyprus and he is an absolute diamond. Very reasonable charges and above all a truly nice guy and a superb professional , would recommend him to any one , and he speaks English.

Two sets of X-rays plus two casts and three consultations (orthopaedist) for a broken fibula: £45 total.

Appendectomy with severe haematological problems, incl. 6 days in private clinic £1100

Repair to large inguinal hernia, requiring two nets, on patient requiring cardiologist backup, incl. 3 days in private clinic, £1050

Removal of large cyst from neck, requiring 45 minutes of operating room, £100

Ultrasound exploration of aorta from inside the stomach, with anaesthesia, £90

Who says medical services are expensive? These examples are my family's experience over last few years.

We have only needed doctors a few times while in Cyprus. First was many years ago following a car crash in which my rear seat passenger almost severed her tongue. Larnaca hospital sewed it up at no charge, we had it checked at the British base hospital in Akrotiri and they said it was as good a job as any doctor could have done.

Two years ago my daughter got an infection in an ingrowing toe nail. Had the nail removed at a local doctor in Limassol with no wait (about two months on NHS) and it cost Cy£20.00 so not even worth claiming on medical insurance. This included anti bacterial cream and antibiotics. Needless to say he is now our regular Cyprus doctor, (For Niki)German guy almost opposite Holiday Inn on the seafront above a pharmacy, don't know his name as his card is in the flat in Neapolis.
