u should see how they drive in France
Ah yes. Taking a transfer from CDG to a hotel in the middle of Paris is something to remember. The driver pointing out things like where Diana died while driving 90mph and looking *back* at all the passengers really gets everyone making sure their seatbelts are on. Lovely stuff.

One minor difference though is in Paris they drive like complete nutters. But flat out, crazy manouvering nutters. If they have a crash they you can really see why; they are driving like complete nutters. In Cyprus, from what I've seen in the last year, you can have a perfectly quiet 50kph straight road with pedestrian crossings and like 3 cars driving up it. 10 seconds later someone smashes into the back of a car that was like 100 metres away but waiting to turn into another road. What the hell is up with that? Oh yeah, on the mobile, chatting to kids in back of car (while turned around), or perhaps talking to someone on the side of the road. Gotta love it.

Cheers

Italy, France, Greece, Serbia, Romania, they all have a lot to teach you yellow livered sissies down there!

One thing that always stays with you and you can NEVER adapt when you move away is UK driving. Still can't get used to the totally unpredictable, totally unforeseeable things mainland Greek drivers do, and I have been facing them for 33 years. So be defensive, be vigilant, be polite and never assume you understand what the other guy ( or lady on the cell phone) is going to do. But I must say that after Greece driving in Cyprus is a dawdle. People are so polite!!!!

Heh heh. The other thing is you get a lot of *really* hesitant drivers here. I mean coming out of junctions or going onto roundabouts really can be murder at times. Fair enough you have to be a bit more careful with idiots ploughing into you after going through red lights, but we are talking some serious gaps are required before a hell of a lot of people think of moving any. Main reason I see my street conjested during peak times. Cross roads at either end basically.

Most recent experience.

I roll up to the supermarket on my highly visible white bicycle. Lady driver is looking at me in the eyes. I assume she is waiting for me to pass by before opening her door. WRONG assumption, she opens the door timing it perfectly to skin my knuckles! I yelp, she calls me blind malaka. Another day in the life of an Athens cyclist cum motorist. See what you are missing you guys! Want to trade places?
