Hi, Does anyone know if the Pet Transporting service offered by GB Airways is going to be affected by this?
I really hope not because they were the best priced and really helpful :(

My husband phoned BA who passed him onto to an enquiry line at GB airways. The very nice lady at the end of the phone said they had,nt been informed officially yet, but her understanding was that the Manchester slots to Paphos would be operated by easy jet throughou t summer 2008. Bear in mind though that this may be just part of the current script!!

Calm Down Calm Down..... Surely low cost airelines to the island, no matter who they, are are a good thing, for the island, more visitors more income, and for the visitors cheaper hols...?

Easyjet and Cyprus..

Postby cymart » Tue Nov 13, 2007 1:08 pm

My wife owns a well-known travel agency in Paphos and we have been asked this question umpteen times in recent weeks:The facts are that although EasyJet have bought GB Airways they have no commitment to continue operating their routes and this is why there is no official information available yet for after March 2008.I would ask people to bear in mind that EasyJet and other European airlines tend to fly only short and medium haul routes with places like Athens and Estonia being their limit at around 3.5 hours for economical and practical reasons, bearing in mind their aircraft types etc.Cyprus is at least 4.5 hrs from the nearest U.K. airport under favourable weather conditions so don't get too excited yet about EasyJet coming here!
If its any consolation there is a budget firm from Leeds/Bradford definitely starting flights next season and Globespan and Monarch already operate here.
This winter there is a chronic problem of no charter flights being available from here to the U.K. and of course everyone is up in arms now about having to pay an arm and a leg for what seats are available.Whilst I can sympathise with people who have come to live here and need to go home for one reason or another,it would also be appropriate to consider why this situation has arisen?Tour operators only operate charter flights to places where they can sell holidays and make a profit-be frank and think what does Cyprus have to offer a winter holiday maker compared to other warmer destinations like the Canaries,Southern Spain and increasingly popular Egypt where you can swim in the sea all the year round?Furthermore they have good facilities and entertainment for all the family-AND for often far less than Cyprus which is overpriced, overdeveloped and frankly ugly in many places!
Blame the developers who convinced you to invest your hard-earned savings here and ruined the very things that attracted people to retire here in the first place!Like so many things ,there is one short sighted motive and that is to grab as much as possible in the shortest time!
I write this with great sadness after knowing Cyprus for decades but all I see around me is greed and deterioration from the highest levels of power to the ordinary people who were once far less wealthier materially but also much happier, more hospitable and gave Cyprus its good reputation.....
