Passenger fears ground CY flight
A CYPRUS Airways flight to Athens was delayed for hours yesterday when a group of passengers refused to fly, citing fears for their safety.
On embarkation, around 30 passengers complained of the heat inside the Airbus, demanding that they be transferred to another flight.
As a result, the aircraft was grounded for hours as all the luggage had to be unloaded, so that the protesting travellers could then identify their belongings and have them transferred to another plane.
The destination of the afternoon flight was the Eleftherios Venizelos airport outside Athens.
According to reports, the passengers included a number of VIPs, among them a French governmental delegation.
The passengers were apparently worried that the plane’s air-conditioning system was malfunctioning.
Faulty air-conditioning was named as one of the possible reasons for the accident aboard a Helios airliner more than two years ago.
