Come on DT.

As young Lyce' students we used to 'hate' the TCs who went to the English School. I dont know if it was envy or no, they were so snobbish. They used to exhibit 'we are mightier than thou' attitude'. I am talking of the '50s and 60's of course.

But we ES alumni ARE mightier than thou. 8) Always have been always will be.

I did suggest that it was envy. I was upset I was not sent there. Our family did have students attending there. My late uncle was an English teacher there in the late 40s /early fifties. Had to leave for political reasons. One of his favourite students was either Kyprianou or Clerides. I think it was the latter. I remember him showing the note books of this person., which he kept as a memento..
We know the cream of society went through the English School so you rightly can be proud of yourself.    Does it keep the same standards it had then?

Well I'm class of 92 and by that time the standards were still pretty good on both education and discipline. (Capital puishment was given out a few times by the headmaster while i studied there.)

Duke Of Edinburgh still used to pay his annual visit over for the DoE awards and managed to keep his mouth shut from pissing off any of the natives.

Still the easiest school to get into top class uni's in the UK.

P.S It was Clerides, think Denktash was there at the same time a few years younger than him.

You are correct about Denktash. My uncle did teach him at the English School. I tried to avoid mentioning him so as not to let the thread/topic get hijacked. Another was the Sheihk Nazim the resident Nakshibendi Dervish Leader, resident in Lefka. These were leople I met (when much yougerand heard them reminiscing of the G.O.D.s. They were in praise of Clerides as a very clever student. Needless to say many others have followed in their footsteps, both GCs and TCs and Armenians.
T'is true it was the fool-proof way of entry into the British Uni's.

FAT LOT OF GOOD THAT DID FOR CYPRUS ...TOO LEADERS ,WHOM BETWEEN HAVE SCREWED THE PEOPLE OF CYPRUS AND THEIR FUTURE FOR EVER ..

WAS DENKTASH A FAT RACIST ,ARROGANT DOG THEN TOO ..

CLEARIDES ...DONT MAKE ME LAUGH ....USELESS

Yes its true ..they eventually lived togeather in the U.K and practised law opposite one another ....

2 ...both are masons ....ready to shaft their people in no time

and none of the T.C CYPS ON THIS FORUM GIVE ME PRO DENKTASH STATEMENTS ..everyone knows the pig is pro Turkey and none solution ...

How about Tasos Papadoupolos ?
What is the differences between him and Denktash Baba.
