Come on DT.

As young Lyce' students we used to 'hate' the TCs who went to the English School. I dont know if it was envy or no, they were so snobbish. They used to exhibit 'we are mightier than thou' attitude'. I am talking of the '50s and 60's of course.

But we ES alumni ARE mightier than thou. 8) Always have been always will be.

I did suggest that it was envy. I was upset I was not sent there. Our family did have students attending there. My late uncle was an English teacher there in the late 40s /early fifties. Had to leave for political reasons. One of his favourite students was either Kyprianou or Clerides. I think it was the latter. I remember him showing the note books of this person., which he kept as a memento..
We know the cream of society went through the English School so you rightly can be proud of yourself.    Does it keep the same standards it had then?

Well I'm class of 92 and by that time the standards were still pretty good on both education and discipline. (Capital puishment was given out a few times by the headmaster while i studied there.)

Duke Of Edinburgh still used to pay his annual visit over for the DoE awards and managed to keep his mouth shut from pissing off any of the natives.

Still the easiest school to get into top class uni's in the UK.

P.S It was Clerides, think Denktash was there at the same time a few years younger than him.

You are correct about Denktash. My uncle did teach him at the English School. I tried to avoid mentioning him so as not to let the thread/topic get hijacked. Another was the Sheihk Nazim the resident Nakshibendi Dervish Leader, resident in Lefka. These were leople I met (when much yougerand heard them reminiscing of the G.O.D.s. They were in praise of Clerides as a very clever student. Needless to say many others have followed in their footsteps, both GCs and TCs and Armenians.
T'is true it was the fool-proof way of entry into the British Uni's.

In which case, Oranos, you would have been taught that it is the height of bad manners to mention your earnings!

life is about being prepared ... cyprus does not prepare its young for the real world neither does it prepare its workers ...

i predict in 3 years 65% of the population will be in dead end jobs ...

the state schools and the goverment are not talking to the big companies about their needs and more and more jobs are going to foreigners ..

check out amdocs recruitment policy in limmassol ...how many GC WORK THERE ..they are IT SOLUTIONS PROVIDERS ...they bring overseas workers galore ..pay them huge wages ....why ..no real experience ,just certs ...you cant live on certs and hope for meson ,.first language must be english and confident and detailed in their work approach...show me a cypriot male who can concentrate for more than 5minutes on a subject ....

Tai Chi is based on controlled, slowed down movements from Karate and Judo . . . BUT I do not see it as having anything "Martial" about it, since you would be knocked over before taking the first breath

Stop worrying about my views on religion . . . I was put off Christmas because of a number of tragedies which proved to me it was nothing special . . added to which I hate the fakery of the celebrations here in the UK.

Winter solstice is a REAL phenomenon . . . and because my son is still young and loves celebrations . . it's meaningful to celebrate something natural and acquaint the young with the revolutions of the planet . . etc.

BUT I am afraid Oranos, although brought up Orthodox . . . and my mother would pass out if she knew . . . I cannot possibly believe in the presence of or the need for a GOD . . . let alone a half God as Jesus etc.

Are you going to tell me I am a Barbarian now?

TAI CHI HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH KARATE NOR JUDO

IT IS BASED ON CHIN NA MOVEMENTS AND BASED ...WELL DO SOME RESEARCH ......SO that pretty much summrises why i teach ..cyprus is full of fakes ...the movments are based on combat locks ...how else would you rock back and fourth and work on firm bases ...its to do with chi gung

FAT LOT OF GOOD THAT DID FOR CYPRUS ...TOO LEADERS ,WHOM BETWEEN HAVE SCREWED THE PEOPLE OF CYPRUS AND THEIR FUTURE FOR EVER ..

WAS DENKTASH A FAT RACIST ,ARROGANT DOG THEN TOO ..

CLEARIDES ...DONT MAKE ME LAUGH ....USELESS

Yes its true ..they eventually lived togeather in the U.K and practised law opposite one another ....

2 ...both are masons ....ready to shaft their people in no time

and none of the T.C CYPS ON THIS FORUM GIVE ME PRO DENKTASH STATEMENTS ..everyone knows the pig is pro Turkey and none solution ...

True to form, as expected. For what its worth, I am not a supporter of any current and past living political leader. I support Cyprus and its people.

good ....so how do you support them ...for example as a local body i am involved in various issues in my local government and i am involved in various lobbies ...i ie pro family help ,pro workers group (helping underskilled get work or learn to read etc )
i lead by example ..i wish to erase the pro hunting moron ,football obessed men ,pro whorehouse/gambling by turning them to culture etc ...and i am doing well .....

cyprus politics ....all of the parties suck ...DISY HAVE SOME GOOD IDEAS ..BUT NEED A GOOD LEADER WITH MORALS

COMMIES ARE USELESS ...ARE DO AS I SAY BUT NOT AS I DO

DIKO - CORRUPT TO THE CORE
