Bloody Turks!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby rastan » Sat Dec 13, 2008 3:28 am

Instead of looking to the past, which we all know wasn't that long ago & we all remember etc etc, lets look to the future....how about if we make new friends and build bridges? Seems like a good idea to me...

I'm so sick of the hostility... I live in Famagusta, in my area everybody's gc. And I've met some that would never judge me because of my roots yet on MANY occasions I've been the victim of abuse of course. I live along side greek cypriots, I have nothing against them, they are my family... The hostility just gives me a headache now really, I agree with the above post, if we put as much effort into building bridges between one another as we do into promoting division and hate between us I'm sure we'd be a nation of much better people..turks and greeks.

Welcome to the forum Yesil_gozlu. You would do good to bring along your friends too. We need some new faces who are willing to make friends.

:D Thankyou. I will try bring some friends... though to be honest I don't usually get time for forums, this is the only one I was visiting, and I just joined this morning out of boredom as I arrived in the UK yesterday for 1month to visit my family for christmas and new years. And find it so boring! So I guess this forum will be something to help pass the time... :-)

There is a very slight chance of getting bored, but I wouldnt bank on it. It can get very hot here. You will make many friends and a few enemies too (perhaps not). Be prepared and enjoy.

I haven't been here for ages, sorry, I'm very glad that at least some of you gc's and tc's are thinking about making friends with each other! Here in the UK gc's & tc's are generally very good friends, why can't you be the same in Cyprus? Seems strange to me considering that there are more Cypriots living in the UK than there are living in the whole of Cyprus! Before anyone starts slagging me off (no doubt they will), I'm English/Scottish, I stayed in the TRNC for 2 weeks holiday, I also visited the south and I love Cyprus, I take no sides, I think the Turkish Cypriots are lovely people & I also think the Greek Cypriots are equally lovely people!

Just one point I forgot to mention, remember WW1 and WW2? I'm English so should I hate the Germans? On the contrary, I have some very good German friends that myself and my family visit every year and our German friends also travel to England to visit us, we enjoy a certain amount of friendly banter..i.e. they have an original SS motorbike - I have a photo of me (an Englishman) sitting on a German SS motorbike wearing a genuine SS German Army helmet from the war! Politicians create war, not ordinary people!

Yes rastan in an ideal world we would all love each other. That's why we have Human Rights, to help us work towards that goal .... and to respect the Sovereign rights of other nations.

Hating your enemy (that which tries to destroy you), is a fundamental learned emotion of survival.

If the Germans had violated your rights, by invading your territory through slaughter of your relatives, and continued to abuse Rights to this day; surely you would be on the road to self-destruction, if you did not desire to reverse the ongoing continued occupation. For that is what we have here in Cyprus - not the peace attained in GB by a successful counter-attack on Germany - but a continual fight for survival.
