Those who read my previous posts will know I spent 2 weeks in (if you're a Turkish Cypriot KKTC) (if you're a Greek Cypriot the illegally occupied area) in the past, if I had a stamp in my passport KKTC (which I do), and I attempted to travel to Greece or The Republic of Cyprus I would be arrested for illegally entering Cyprus but this is no longer the case, there is definately a softening of stance from BOTH sides of the divide.

It is a forgone conclusion that there will soon be a settlement to the Cyprus problem, Turkey is getting desperate to withdraw 30,000 troops from Cyprus (it's costing them a fortune that they can no longer afford) & Greece has a new and better relationship with Turkey, so they are also desperate to find a solution to the Cyprus problem....The biggest barrier is in peoples minds (just like when the Berlin wall came down) It's just a matter of time.

A genuine question....Often wondered....How does an army sitting in one barracks cost more than sitting in another?????? :?

A genuine answer to your genuine question zan, when I was on holiday in North Cyprus I saw many military vehicles from Turkey (with Turkish number plates) travelling to the barracks in North Cyprus, obviously they needed to cross by ferry from Turkey to Cyprus, this costs money & obviously costs fuel that they use whilst driving - the 30,000 Turkish troops based in Noth Cyprus need to be constantly supplied, this is very expensive for Turkey - don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed my holiday in North Cyprus & I love the Turkish Cypriots, they really are such friendly people, we are planning to return to the TRNC next year - but we also visited South Cyprus and we found the Greek Cypriots to be equally friendly and we plan to spend more time in the south next year.
As I said several times before, I don't take any sides in the Cyprus problem, I love Cyprus (all of Cyprus)...mark my words, very soon Cyprus will be re-united

How can you be so sure rastan? do you have some inside information we dont know about? because the current talks appear to heading for deadlock as we have seen so many times. what do yo uknwo that we dont living here on the island?

No, I don't have any inside information (of course), but I can see there is massive pressure from outside Cyprus, Turkey is desperate for a solution & so is Greece...I'm an optimist and I believe that the Turkish Cypriots would like to become part of the EU (whether that's good or bad is not sure), and having read many posts on this forum, it seems most Greek Cypriots would also like to find a soulution to re-unite your island.
But of course I'm just a bloody tourist, Cyprus for me is a paradise holiday destination that I have taken an interest in!

Lets say they take the soldiers back to Turkey rastan.....What do they do there....Go into hibernation??? They still perform operations. They still drive cars. They still eat and drink. The only difference I can think of is if bullets and bombs start flying. The cost of expensive intelligent missiles I can understand but the rest????

Everyone wants a solution mate.......We are not animals...It is a problem of what type. The GCs won the political battle...We won the physical......They have control of my island in political terms and we have control of 37% of land. We are happy with what we have got and they still want more......You do the math!!!!!

Since you've mentioned the "physical" battle you won let me complete your sentence.

They have control of my island in political terms and we have control of 37% of land by force.

Whats the result we have today? We can argue all you want about the differing opinions that happened in the past. WHats going on today? Turkey occupies by FORCE 1/3 of the island, Turkey expelled by FORCE 1/3 of the population from their homes.

These are the realities TODAY. You put it very nicely, you said the GC's won the POLITICAL battle while the TC's won the PHYSICAL one. Your words not mine.

And you are holding my island and my people to ransom by force...You trying to squirm your way out of your part in this is despicable!! You took and hold our rights by force...That is the reality not your distorted propaganda....I at least admit to both...You spread lies.

My goodness, you guys certainly love to argue with each other - when I first joined this forum I was rather shocked by the way you slag each other off, but now I have got used to it I can actually see through the trees and understand that in reality you really do respect each other, you are all Cypriots after all!
I follow with interest the news in Cyprus & I understand that Demetris Christofias and Mehmet Ali Talat are actually "good mates" when they are away from the the political table, although their friendship may be somewhat less since Talat's outburst last week when Christofias visited Russia. But probably that was all political, and they both enjoyed a slap up meal together afterwards.
I was talking to one of my best friends yesterday about it (he is a Cypriot) and his opinion is that Christofias & Talat are a bunch of *******
Whatever the politicians decide will not work if the people of the country don't agree with them.....like I said before, I'm optimisic & when I was in TRNC I saw many Greek Cypriots enjoying the beaches of the Karpaz peninsular, there was no hostility towards them from the Turkish Cypriots - on the contrary, many restaurants in North Cyprus adveritse in Greek, Turkish & English

Up until 1974 your political talk was the sound of guns that killed many Turkish Cypriots. It was our armies that silenced the guns and forced you to talk politics with yuur mouths instead.

Sometimes you need fire to put out a fire and that is exactly what happened in 1974.
