Does anybody when Cyprus will be going into a smoking ban, if ever! I was under the impression that it was already in some sort of a ban, but unfortunately the 'stop-smoking signs' are up but nobody listens to them. I even checked online and apparently it is banned in enclosed spaces, but I have been in many enclosed spaces where smokers where smoking.

Some of Europe has gone into a smoking ban and so have parts of the US and even the UAE.

I don't mind seeing people smoke, it’s just it annoy me to see mothers smoking next to young children and to see fewer than 18 year olds smoking. I even went to the local hospital last week and I saw a chain of doctors smoking, not very health conscience I guess. Does anybody know if Cyprus truly has a smoking ban, and if so why do people appear not to care? I think it is actually fashionable here to smoke, not quite sure why.

You bet! Hard driving, hooting, smoking, cursing, shouting, is all part of the Cypriot culture so get use to it.

in Paris you can smoke anywhere... and throw cigarettes on the floor since smoking is prohibited and there are no ashtrays...

famous last words son ....no one is going anywhere ...You people joined Europe so you will be forced to accept new laws ,asbos ,licenisng laws ,more and more work for the legal depts and government ...lots of changes ...

and you will be become civilised ...statement by the last guy is right ...children in front seats of cars,driving within a single lane and indicating driving with no safety belts ,public services and longer working hours etc ...being nice etc

for sure one thing cyprus as you knew it 10 years ago is gone ..replacing it is the cyprus you voted for .... unfortunately most Greek cypriots were never ready for these changes ....

Today, in the Strovolos Orphanides supermarket cafeteria, one of the managers was smoking, at a table right under a no smoking sign! Good example for his employees. I very nearly kicked up a fuss then thought what the hell!

You have to laugh at you people who complain about smoking etc in Cyprus. Especially brits. You have come from a country that is riddled with crime, drug abuse, violence, corrupt politicians and businesses. You settle in a country which is liberal, friendly, holds the family unit as the most important thing in life and then you lecture to them about becoming civilised. You need to check out what the priorities should be in life and you will maybe then understand why cypriots and others like them see the triviality of such restrictions on personal freedom. Why don,t you take a leaf out of Michael Jacksons book and live in a sterile bubble somewhere. preferably far away from real civilised society.
