Cyprus and Russia:some uncomfortable similarities

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

So lets see, that article starts "WITH the support of all the Greek Cypriots who are opposed to the idea of re-unification in the bag President Papadopoulos..."

And Bananiot calles this an "excellent article".

But of course if another article about Kasouledes or Christofias wrote "WITH the support of all the Greek Cypriot traitors who support the idea of selling off 1/3rd of Cyprus to the Turks in the bag, Kasoulides... ", Bananiot would be screaming about giving the people that voted "yes" a bad "label".

By the way, isn't the above article of Cyprus-Mail treasonous? Aren't they trying to help the Turks to take away part of our country. I think it is very clear what they are, what their aim is and from where they are funded.

Oranos, what I said has nothing to do with English Cypriots. Those that fund the Cyprus mail are not Cypriot at all, neither they care for Cypriots. What they care is to force on Cyprus their own will against the interests of Cyprus.

Did anybody jail you for committing treason Bananiot?

Or maybe you are allowed to say that we should dissolve our state and sell off 1/3rd of our country to the Turks but we are not allowed to say our opinion?

No my friend, in this democratic country you are free to say your opinion and we are also free to say ours. Thats what democracy means.

So if our opinion is that your acts are treasonous then why shouldn't we be allowed to express our view?

Sorry but you are ridiculous. Like when some Bishop says something which is against your beliefs you all come out and say that Bishops should not get involved in politics and all that. And then when some other Bishop comes and publicly supports the same thing that you support, you immidietly come to congratulate him.

So basically in your version of "democracy" only those that agree with you should talk

You are not allowed to tell your view because he already judged that your are fascist

And he is democratic..... :P :P :P

Just lies or do I need a hearing aid?

Postby cymart » Tue Oct 23, 2007 1:18 pm

Bananiot unfortunately is right and this is nothing Cyprus should be proud of!
I have heard so much lies and deception from politicians here that I am beginning to wonder if there might be something wrong with my hearing because some of the things are incredible! This stinking business about the off-shore gas platform and alleged involvment of the Presidents families law office would have brought them down in any other serious country, yet nothing will happen and it will all be swept under the carpet as usual and people will just accept it as normal! There have been so many other instances where downright lies has beeen uttered by people in official posts and Lillikas is becoming an expert at this art!The Government spokesman even now admits for example, that Papad. did pledge to accept the Annan Plan as a basis for negotiation before he was elected in 2003 and so many people know this that Lillikas is a fool to keep denying it!
In Russia anyone who opposes Putin is not only called a traitor but also subject to arrest and probable ill-treatment by the so-called law authorities who will have decided the verdict and sentence before they are even brought to court! They may even decide you are guilty of so-called'terrorist activities'which allows indefinite detention!
If anyone wants to know more about the true face of Russia I can tell you plenty that you will not know about when you grab the elites easy flowing cash or maybe savour the delights of a Slavic princess!
But coming back to corruption etc, this seems to be a syndrome of many countries in the world to a lesser or greater degree and Cyprus could perhaps be compared to other islands such as Sardinia or Sicily where everyone knows someone else and the forming of a ruling elite clique is inevitable. The sad thing is that such circles resist any change to what they consider is a situation that protects their interests and status and in our case that means keeping things as they are here now for as long as possible by trying to convince everyone that any alternative will be worse than what they have now!
Paphos is a perfect example of a place where the business and political elite are closely linked to the present government which they see as protecting their interests, especially after they have made millions in recent years from real-estates etc.Although it is of course not directly their fault, the fortune of this town is largely a result of the loss of Famagusta and other places in the north......If you are one the people from there, believe you me it does not feel nice to live in this place, unless you are a foreigner who has retired here without knowing or being affected by the situation,or you are one of the nouveau riche Paphians! No doubt this is why Papad. began his election campaign from here??
What amazes me is that there are many decent and intelligent people in this island, yet they either believe the lies and mis-information they are fed and must be totally indifferent to keep electing such people to rule them. There is an old saying that people get the leaders they deserve but surely the Cypriots deserve better than the type of politicians they have at present?
In Britain they put up with Blairs lies for years until he went to far with Saddam Hussains alleged weapons of mass destruction to justify backing Bush in Iraq etc!He was finally made to resign this summer and its already as if he never existed!
