I'm not mocking, I just think that it is a disgusting method of slaughter, and for what?
Tell the people who've been operated on without being properly anaesthetised that they felt no pain when the very sharpest of surgical instruments were used.
These practices belong back in the dark ages where the originated.

Slaughter of animals for protein is one of the most barbaric acts that is still allowed by custom and law.

There is no excuse for not moving over to non-animal sources of protein such as tofu, quorn and countless others.

Meat eaters are turning a blind eye to this savage practice and justify it by clinging to some archaic beliefs about an imaginary god that told them so!

I wasnt picking an argument, but I suppose you have never seen the methods used in slaughter houses in England. I have an open mind but what I saw, when collecting spleens for bioresearch, was unbelievable.

I reckon that a sharp knife was much faster than a bolt and then the wait for the slaughter. Anyway its a matter of perceprion. As I said I was not accusing you, It had just occured to me.

Actualy from 14yrs until I was 22 I worked in the butchery and fish trade, I know very well the methods used especialy the gruesome way that the Rabbi conducted the Jewish method.
I also witnessed pigs and goats having their throats cut on Agia Varvara street Limassol where I lived in 1966/7; this took place in our very own back yard.
Regarding the captive bolt method I very much doubt if you would be aware of anything once it had pierced your brain, can't say the same would apply if someone cut your throat.
The idea of the bolt is stun not kill, the same applies to the electric shock method, the animal is then strung up and it's throat cut so that it bleeds to death in doing so the meat will not bruise.

Stunning....

Postby cymart » Fri Oct 26, 2007 9:13 am

The captive bolt effectively causes instant unconsciousness and this is its purpose and it is usually employed on cattle and large animals but sheep and pigs are stunned by various methods such as electric tongs on their ears and co2 gas etc.The danger with electrical stunning is that if not correctly carried out at the right frequency and for the correct length of time it can paralyse animals rather than stun them and this means they will still be fully conscious at stage two of the process when their throats are cut. There are ways of checking such as eye-movements and reflexes etc but when the staff are on piece work and eager to process as many animals as possible, there is of course the risk that animals will not be properly stunned and this was mentioned in the FAWC report I refered to yesterday. That's why co2 stunning is considered safer and easier to administer.
As far as'sticking' animals without stunning is concerned, the fact that they need to be restrained and manhandled is surely already stressful and frightening enough for them without even considering the pain and shock from the incision so this is why I still maintain that it should be outlawed-with no exceptions!

I believe that Halal meat is freely available through the Muslim world - if it's not available in Cyprus then feel free to excercise one great right that every free person has in Cyprus. It's known as "the right to leave at any time"

While we're on this subject, does anyone know of a good Danish bacon shop in Saudi Arabia?

I therefore rest my case!
