Now I'm REALLY angry!

It's my birthday in early November, and already people from the UK have started to send me cards.
One card arrived yesterday, and had been opened. Before you ask, no, it couldn't have torn in the post - it had been deliberately opened along one end! The card had contained a keyring which was removed. OK, a keyring is just a keyring, but the fact that somebody has taken it upon themselves to open the card to remove the contents really hacks me off! Last year, on our 10th wedding anniversary, 2 people sent us champagne via registered post. They were both tracked as far as Cyprus, where they mysteriously disappeared!
I would rather give something away rather than have some thieving b@@@@@d steal from me! I doubt the perpetrator will read this, but I needed to have a rant!
Has anyone else experienced similar happenings?

Yes, my birthday card, with dosh from my dad never arrived.

Hubby posted one of his Zippo lighters (lifetime guarantee), for repair, never to be seen again. Normally wouldn't be a big deal, is easy enough to buy a replacement. But our eldest son bought it for his 50th birthday, so we're very p*ssed off.

Here in the UK, Royal Mail are on strike again.

When they are not on strike, they are always delivering late, to wrong address or failing to deliver. They once delivered one of my letters damp, and scorched but sealed in a plastic bag with an apology and something about a fire at their depot.

Snail-mail the same wherever you go.!

The best one for Royal Mail for us when we had not long started our business. We had sent a pile of brochures to a client which didn't arrive in time and when it did 2 weeks later the contents had been ripped up (must have been dropped and kicked) and stuffed into a plastic bag.

We lost the client after this as we missed their deadline and were stupid enough to use RM and trying to get compensation is a no starter. We also had to pay to have a reprint.

In Cyprus we regularly have mail opened and sellotaped up. Maybe they check certain mail?

I have experienced this in the past too Niki, but the relevant package has been opened by Customs (no problem with that at all) and resealed in the manner you describe. BUT, the package ALWAYS carries an official stamp declaring it to have been subject to a Customs Inspection.

Yes, funnily enough the kids birthday cards that contain money always seem to go astray. Dunno how!?!?! :? :?

When I am sending post - whether it contains a cheque or not, I deliberately write all over the seal, i.e. I write our address on one side and then just do a squiggle on the other and a x at the bottom. Hopefully this deters the mystery post openers. I usually just write on 'CARD ONLY' too for good measure. I only started this practice in Cyprus, but reading this thread, I think I will do it wherever I go now!!

Sending money by unregistered post...

Postby cymart » Sat Oct 20, 2007 8:57 pm

It used to be officially prohibited from here due to currency regulations and maybe still is so maybe that's why those who open it say 'finders keepers!'

I buy & sell over eBay on the internet and have parcels and packeges both delivered and sent worldwide.

I've been doing this for over 12 months and only 2 items have "disappeared" en-route to their destination (sent from Cyprus that is).

However, both of the items were returned - fully intact to our address in Limassol as we always enter our return address on the back of each package, in case of it being undelivered at it's destination.

The first package - we don't know why it didn't reach its' destination but the 2nd was returned as "not collected" as the receiver didn't get the paper from his post office to tell him it was waiting to be collected.....

We must send out at least 10 - 12 items every week and probably receive 3 or 4 from our own purchases. It may not be the cheapest place to send post from but Cyprus certainly performs well enough from our experience and our feedback on ebay always shows the dispatch time as being rated top scores every time.

Well, we have always received birthday cards and letters intact and today my daughter received her birthday card (in a lumpy envelope) unopened but enclosing a big badge and a charm thing to hang on her mobile phone.
Also post from UK arrives within a week, quicker than letters from local companies (banks and insurance companies)
