Alternatives in Cancer Research.
Although no alternatives could completely replace the use of mice in current cancer research, uses of mice have already been reduced and refine

I realise that you are saying that not all research is this advanced but many an invention has been conceived in sheds...

That is a good link showing the awareness of research labs to the issue of replacing laboratory animals.

It's also good because without meaning to it is highlighting how artificial it is to use these mice.

The type of cancers they have been selected to develop are quite different to naturally occurring cancers and results obtained using these mice are even MORE dubious than ones not specifically bred for this purpose.

That's my point to devil . . . because thalidomide was tested on the wrong species it was assumed safe and prescribed accordingly.

Surely you can see the uncertainty caused by using other animals as models for Humans?

i saw a press release this week ...that the U.S /U.K will developing human sub species ..for testing and future organ donations i thought it was a joke till a hollywood friend said to me maybe they were watching the film "THE ISLAND" BUT NO ... its true the law was pasted and it will allow rich people to grow replicas for organ replacements etc ...

apparently there are articles on the web by genetic scienctists saying this will reslove the animal testing issues ...

the more we get closer to the creation ..the more we walk away from GOD I GUESS ..

Oranos good point. :D

You can already donate your own cells to establish new skin in tissue culture for testing sensitivity to drugs. Also this tissue can be grafted on to yourself without rejection problems (burn victims, scar tissue replacement etc).

Stem cell research is the way to go as well . . .

There are many avenues; but ALL the pharmaceutical companies have to stop using animals and then the combined effects of pooling resources will see such a surge of better ways of producing and testing drugs. :)

Guys you arent getting me they are not stopping there ..my friend is a C.N.N /INDEPENDENT NEWS REPORTER

Her team are investigating this article ...becuase Bush went against his christian idealogies ...its not just tissue etc ...but the probablitie of cloning full function human clones ...i kid you not ....the U.S army is a major lobby for this ...why train men who are family ...when you can clone your best soldiers

2 ... also full function but brain dead clones ...my friend melissa says they want to have options on how and this will go before a jury ...but fully comatose beings or living beings is the choice ...this is a worrying creation for me ...

Don't worry about things you cannot do anything about. It's progress. Sooner or later they will be cloning Humans. It's only a matter of ethics to sort out.

This debate on the ethics of animal testing is good reading but I'm just going back to the title of this thread ; "charities in Cyprus" ....... is anyone aware whether there are any charities for the provision of medical treatment for needy Cypriots on either side of the border???? Is there a need for such a kind of charity in Cyprus?
