What is the best book you have read lately

Postby LENA » Thu Oct 18, 2007 5:41 pm

I would like to know good books...love reading and I just finished reading the best book I have ever read the last 2-3 years.

Its called "Θεανώ: Η λύκαινα της Πόλης"!!! One of the best! If you can read Greek try this out.

One of the books that a friend told me lately that I should read is "Birds without wings"!

Any other suggestions?
What is your favorite book?

This should be a great thread, Lena.

What sort of novels do you prefer? Comedy, Romantic, Historical . . . ?

The funniest one I have read was "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian" by . . . I've forgotten her name. I'll find it later.

The saddest was "Suite Francaise" by Nemirovski (she never got to finish writing it because the Nazis killed her!)

The most compelling and disturbing was "Perfume" by Suskind.

And the best night time read was "Life of Pi" by Martel

I can't wait to hear what others recommend . . .

Lena
"The Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian" is by Marina Lewycka. It's about the relationship between two sisters and is full of really funny situations as it brings home the cultural differences immigrants face in the UK.

If you like to get stuck into a series, I couldn't put down "The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency" series by Alexander McCall Smith and read the whole series in a week . . . now there are no more :(
