This will be third one.The Akgunler-1 ferry left the Gazimagusa Port this morning for the Syrian city of Latakiya with 40 passengers.

As from today, there will be two scheduled services per week from Gazimagusa and Latakia ports, with ferries leaving Gazimagusa every Thursday and Sunday for a day-long visit to Syria.

The ferry services between the two cities were to start yesterday but yesterday’s sailing was postponed because of bad weather conditions.
The Akgunler-1 ferry left the Gazimagusa Port this morning for a three-hour journey to Latakiya.

For adults prices are 100 USD
Students :75 USD

The ferry is 34m long 9.4 meters wide, 297(?) passengers travels at maximum speed 32 knots (59 km/hr) consumes average 900 litres fuel per hour.

I am very sorry but it doesn't even cover it's fuel expenses with only 40 passengers....

And what does that tell you??????There is something else afoot     WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

Oh I forgot you are right, it all has to do with the myth of your "isolation". Wait until the EU just verifies your own myths. I am sure in few months the ferry will be subsidized by your puppet regime to make the route without passengers. Perhaps a few cats inside.

MIAOUUUU EU AOUUUU :P :P :P :P

I say when, coz, some dickhead will sail in rough waters someday...you know the macho shit and all that...

I am with you NIkias...the 34m boat is far too small...Shit I wouldn't even cross the Tasman in this type of a boat...not that the governmant would ever allow such a service to take place...No insurance will ever take it on...

This tells me the authorities would rather risk human lives just to score points...

GET A BIGGER BOAT AND STOP PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK

You mean one with 600 passenger capacity consuming 1700 litres fuel an hour?

Would it be enough to carry 40 thousand ^-3 people?

Allowing a 100 foot boat to transport people in the open seas in the winter is negligent. If they want to establish a link, for whatever reason, then let them use a decent sized ship, that would be able to take cargo too and reinforce the political gains.

Just in case anyone here wants to travel on this tub, make sure the weather forecast is for long term conditions of under force 5, and no southerly winds at all. Waves from the south in the Med are BIG rolling waves that will make the trip hell for you.

Well it is what I was saying. If any of you guys on the forum want to go to Syria wait till you have really good weather forecast, winds and seas below force 5. I know what it is like to be tossed about a ship like a sack of potatoes. Not nice!

Have you ever crossed from UK ot Belgium can get pretty rough but people still do it, I think your concern sounds very artificial allowing that this crossing is very important for the progress of the TC.

VP, I worked on the cross-channel ferries for four years. Most of them were 20,000 tons plus, the one I worked on was about 40 metres wide, I can't remember the length. The seacats, which were longer than the Syrian ferry, could not sail in really rough weather - something they learned the hard way when the first rough crossing was met by a fleet of ambulances because many of the passengers were so ill. Bad weather can make crossings much longer, they could be at sea for most of the day which messes up schedules.
My personal view is that most of the passengers will buy one way tickets, illegal immigrants don't usually do return trips.

Jerry,

Tell them because they think my warnings are a kind of political sabotage. When I heard the size of this little boat and thought of the Med in mid winter with a force 7 or 8 southerly my stomach did a flip. Still, if they want to go they can go, just remember to check the forecast and avoid weather over force 5. Even that with a southern wind can be a little taxing on the stomach but not dangerous.

And for those who liken the trip to an English channel crossing remember the distances- 18 miles for the Channel, 80 miles to Syria.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but methinks the ferry party has finished. Give it a few days and watch the announcement from Syria.

At least you got a few crossings in

Do you think this comedy will help ?
it will help to increase the the gap between 2 sides.
Every steps are taking very seriously with people of the TC's.
DT, my dear friend our struggle to be continued.
important for me was what the people of the Syria was thinking. politician might think different . They will understand soon it will not go forever.
