For what its worth contrary to common belief a good percentage of TCs have not gained in any shape or form whatsoever from GC losses and furthermore they detest those that have.

@GR thanks for the vote of confidence mate.

I have said it before and will say it again...Every time I approached anyone about buying land in the TRNC/KKTC I was always given the piece of advise, "Don't buy GC property. Do the proper checks".

Well said MR-from-NG. That is what we have been telling them all along.

I'm glad you agree Zan. Its a moral thing really. Imagine building your dream home on some poor GC persons land and he knocks on your door with his deeds and tells you it was left to him from his father which was left to him from the grandfather and that they one day wish to build their dream home and live in it. How the hell am I gonna get any sleep from then on? The feeling of guilt would kill me. And I know these feelings are shared by you and the vast majority of TCs.

This is a very sad and complex situation and I hope it is resolved in a fair civil manner.

Simple, you would presumably give it back! . . . hence no guilt.

Not being cynical or anything, I was ready to jump on the bandwagon and congratulate your stance . . . but now I think your guiding principles are those of an astute business man who knew he may have to one day hand back the GC land and perhaps not the philanthropist you may wish to portray.

Sorry but have to disagree with you phoenix, you've misinterpreted the whole thing. My feelings are on moral grounds and not financial. I'm not doing it to get praise or credit from you guys. This is from the heart. I'm a property owner in the UK, Spain (Ibiza) and Cyprus. I would hate to lose any of them, I worked damn hard to acquire them, I guess the GC that lost his property worked just as hard if not harder than me.

My apologies. You are quite right.

Thank you, that's very much appreciated. Time for bed, goodnight and sweet dreams to you all.

Ok, let's talk about your Mother then. I demand that every time she prostitutes herself in the "TRNC" she should pay the RoC taxes. That's TAX evasion I'll have you know...

LOL GR i think you have ridiculed yourself plenty with your views on the matter anyways, how old are you 15?

What's the matter with you Shamaran? You jumped at the opportunity to defend antiquity thieves yet you have no similar desire to defend the woman that brought you to this world? Shame on you tough guy!

There is not a person here that has defended this act...What the hell are you talking about.

Right... so how long will it take before you condemn it instead of hijacking the thread with irrelevant garbage?

I believe the vast majority of TCs condemn any form of looting. The hard working, self made TCs resent that these parasites have gained at the loss of the GCs.

I have been working hard all my life in the UK to achieve something and maintain a lifestyle that I and my family have been accustomed to. I built my dream home in Cyprus on Turkish land which cost me at least 20k more than GC land would have cost me.

I hate it when I see these arseholes driving in their BMs and Mercs that they could only dream of bought by monies gained by selling GC land or antiquities stolen from churches. They are nothing but criminals, that includes the fucking so called TRNC government for allowing it.

So my friend GR, in essence we as TCs do condemn those that have gained at your loss and we hope that you will find justice in the near future.

Mrfromng,

You 've proven over and over again you are a man of dignity and pride and you have my full respect.

Meet the fine "Cypriots" who want to share the island of Cyprus with... no not the Greek Cypriots but Germans! Image

And here I was the other day wondering what the TC community had to offer to Cyprus!

I for one condemn all this thievery of our National Heritage, whatever heritage. For whatever its worth anybody complicit in these actions should be locked up, and those that close their eyes to these should be accountable.

"But can you hold on forever life goes on and times change. Without other developement opportunities people will exploit whats available, GCs are their own worst enemy but by the time they realize this it will be to late. That time is fast approaching."

The plunder of religious artifacts and other antiquities is unique to the north. The people in the south too had the excuse of exploiting what is available. Yet not a single mosque was taken apart to be sold to foreigners. In the north there is an industry dealing with religious plunder. The regime tolerates it because it accomplishes multiple goals- it eradicates Greek patrimony in the north, it rewards cronies close to the regime, it brings in money. Dikman's activity was reported to the authorities in the north back in the 80s, but nothing was done to stop him.

It is a problem that affects the credibility of the regime at the level that counts most- between us, as Cypriots, we know what is going on and why.

Nothing like it has happened in the south and we all know the reasons for that too. For the same reason that in the south no place names, street signs etc were changed. Odd as it might sound there is no similar ethnic complex in the south. Compare the state of the Teke in Larnaca with the church of Saint Mamas in Morphou to see the difference. And no one in the south would ever dream of selling a mosque to a foreigner to use as an art gallery as happened in Fterihou in the north. This situation reveals corruption at a very basic level which is more pervasive than corruption in high places. VPs attempt to justify it shows how deep that state of mind has bitten.

How many refugees do you see living in looted churches? Please let me know. I am very interested.

You still haven't grasped the difference between the two situations...You not only have the freedom of recognition but the constraints of it as well...We do things in order to survive and yes, at times, for political reasons. The TRNC/KKTC has become our home and where we feel safe..We have waited too long to get something back from you...We must now go ahead. The homes issue is one thing but Churches and their contents should be safeguarded. I love the buildings.

Thanks for being a gentleman MR-from-NG (and Iceman) and I think its high time people like you two took over the TC team instead of allowing immature clowns, like Zan and Sham and whoever else, from constantly trashing any chances of positive communication and understanding between the two communities.

I also appreciate your comments (highlighted),. Any chance of extending these comments to some of our more belligerent GC friends?
