De Soto responds to Tassos outburst

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby brother » Mon Mar 07, 2005 3:50 pm

Thats not where i am getting at its the E.U constitution which means effectively that brussels will decide all our laws and polocies including foriegn affairs hence they will decide and all members of E.U will do the same things like it or not, you know like the U.S.A is at the moment but we will be the U.S.E.

Brother,

EU constitution does not state which areas of Cyprus need investment, what measures should be taken for improving the tourism capasity of Karpasia etc... it might be anything related with TC community. If you are a minority and have complaints about discriminatory government policies; you should first try the local courts if it is not satisfactory; the only way is ECHR or you'll have to meet with you fate calmly. And you know how long it takes there to get the result of a case. Moreover who guarantees the permenant existence of EU? An oil crisis followed by an economic crisis and a new world war can easily cause the disolve of Union.

Anti-Papadoglu, is it completely impossible for you to write a post on anything else?

Anyway, tell us how you define this "political equality". Is your definition the same as that of Denktash i.e 50-50 on everything or what?

Actually isn't Denktash's definition of equality 50/50 of the land and then each community gets its own state?

Political equality of the two communities is a must for a viable solution. Those that do not understand this, in practice, are working for the partition of the island. Political equality of the two communities means that two politicallly equal entities exist which have the same political rights and responsibilities, each as a unitary entity, independed of numerical differences. Papadopoulos wouldn't even allow the Olympic torch to pass to the north because this act would update the status of the TC community into an equal political entity, so he thought.

So in your opinion if we go ahead and recognise the "KKsomething" that would be an expression of our will for political equality?

Despite of that you did not answer my question. What is the definition of your Political equality at Federal level?
And how is your definition different from that of Papadopoulos?

Also what is your definition of equality among those 2 groups that you said. Should for example share 50-50 the costs involved?

How about our own equality as human beings, should we donate 2/3rd of our properties to those who got it by force and thereafter gave half of it to the settlers? Should we be restricted basic human rights like for example to live in a place where -what the hell- we pay taxes for it to exist as well?

Oh dear! Political equality does not mean numerical equality. The A plan took care of this rather ingeniously. The presidential council with 4 GC's and 2 TC's says it all. For all major decicions one member of the other community must give a positive vote. For example, the 4 GC's cannot by themselves decide to apply for NATO membership. This logic applies to all levels.

Papadopoulos does not like this. However, he does not say it. All honest independent people involved in the issue recognise this. He does not like the idea of two zones (bizonality) each belonging to one community. He has no stomach for the bicommunal part either. He will never recognise the two communities as politically equal. In fact this is what Talat said yesterday in the meeting with AKEL's Commisar, Christofias. I think, because the TC's will accept nothing less than political equality of the two communities, any efforts from our side to reach a different settlement will only cement partition. This is a real possibility now since the whole world is behind the TC's who have shown positive signs of their will for a solution.

Regarding the costs, I say solution, at all cost! This is the only patriotic stance.

So you are a mind reader as well?

So we should get f****d up the arse for the sake of a solution. Excellent! How patriotic of you. Exchange your current 'banana' republic for another 3. Great!

Of course I am not a mind reader. I am making a political judgment of an elected person who is accountable for his actions or inactions. Surely you can understand this. So, please, no need to resort to melodramas.
