We all danced and laughed and had a great time together. Sunday my friend and I wen to the occupied Nicosia in hope of hring a car for a visit to kyrenia, other than the fact that not many people who were helpful did not sperak english we never managed to find a place to ret a car. Though we sat in the square for a tea and a beer. Nice. The oter night in Larnaca a beautiful gorgeous white mercedes pulled up and the three men sat in the next table talking in Turkish. We soon started conversation. they came over to party.

last night I saw the most disgusting hateful and sad example of Turkish hate. The amazing flag that many TC's are proud to have lit up. I can not say that my perception of TC's has not changed. I can not say how sad I am that separation and hate is driving us all to the destruction of our beautiful Island.

Anyway my days are numbered and I am going to have a great time meeting new friends and visiting my free country. Saturday night I am heading to Larnaca again, I just love the Phinikoudes. My parents and I are looking at a block of land in Lefkosia for a possible move to Cyprus and I am chaffed about that.

In the meantime GR and DT please call me for lunch if you like. I would like to support the TC's guy on Ermou street.

Anyone else who also wants to join in please call me on my mobile, as finding internet cafe's is proving tiresome.

Love Andreas THE CYPRIOT

a word to Talat you take your flag and shove it where it belongs.

You must admit its pretty impessive, the biggest in the world I believe.

The biggest in the world indeed !! But also the most nauseating sign anywhere on the globe !!

"Nikitas its the same for many TCs they do not want to visit their old villages because they want to remember them as they were filled with all their memories and not as they are today, some will not even find their homes as they have been erased off the face of the earth."

Viewpoint wrote the above. Well I went past Peristerona and the Turkish houses there seemed shuttered but untouched. In my ancestral village my relatives tell me that half the houses were demolished, by TCs to prevent them being occupied by settlers from Turkey. I also drove past Mala and Kouklia, and the TC houses there were shut but still standing. In Lefkara I visited people living in houses belonging to TCs and they were kept in original condition, any repairs done must be approved and no one has the right to demolish houses.

Good morning Nikitas.
I agree that some houses have been kept in good condition, so that the refugees could live in them until a settlement might be reached. But to quote Peristerona and its shuttered houses is a bit risky. Peristerona has been famous for a long time for its twin religious sites , of a mosque and church side by side as a symbol of our ability to live together.
As to the shuttered houses in that village I doubt if there is anything left in them from the original owners. I hope I am wrong. In my village, whole blocks of TC houses have disappeared. Whether by design or nature taking its course.

Well...As some of you might be aware,I just visited my village in the ROC,Istinjo,in Paphos, after some 40 years...Very little is left standing,as I knew from photos...Mostly by time's cruel hand, and some by other cruel hands I suspect...I am very glad I did go,so that I have no illusion now how difficult the process of reconciliation and rehabilitation of our communities will be...The magical part of my "homecoming" was this: I was accompanied by 3 True Cypriots (One of Armenian, two of GC background) who supported me emotionally all the way..I felt that they felt strongly the pain that I felt seeing my village in ruins, and my family's land beyond my reach..Humanity is alive and well in Cyprus...WE just have to give it a chance to blossom, instead of trying to bury it...WE shall overcome,people...I have no doubt... :)

Merhaba Yegen,
I agree with everything you say. Most hurtful are those that are trying very hard to put a distance between both sides of the communities (not forgotting our Armenian and Maronite brothers).

Homes are ,ade of 'bricks and mortar', they can be rebuilt. Whatabout human faith? More difficult but can be achieved with Cypriot determination.

Regards

Yenge hanima selamlar ve de iyi dileklerim.

Hi people's

I want to thank Get REAL, Bananiot and VP for organising a night out Monday night in my honour (heheehehehe) sorry I could not make it. Family arrangments occured prior to me getting the message on the forum.

The only time I am available for catch up now is Friday evening/ night, Saturday night after 9.00pm if I can make it earlier I shall try to post, and Sundya afternoon come evening. I do apologise if I cannot get the opportunity to meet those who wish to meet but my days are numbered and there are a couple of things I would like to achieve before leaving Monday night for Sydney.

Monday early lunch or brunch (10ish) could also work.

Love you all and mostly Cyprus.

About the flag , very disappointing as a Cypriot people. That is my only coment at this stage. Ishall curse when sitting on my mac in lounge room.

Deniz my friend unfortunately the Cypriots can have all determination but the brits have more power, to sell the Cypriot people out any day.

Humanist

I'm so glad you have a great time on your return to Cyprus

Its been really nice to read your diary and opinions re your visit

Hope you are able to post some photographs on your return to Oz

It would have been good to have shared a beer with you in Nicosia but I am not due to arrive until Sunday

My son and his mate are on the way to Nicosia from Paphos as I write (they flew in at 8.20 tonight) unfortunately I was not able to fly over with them due to work commitment but am joining them on Sunday for some mountain biking (or in my case ...push it slowly up the 'steep bits) for a few days

anyway I wish you a safe journey home

Best wishes To you
