Cruise on the Nile

Postby Niki » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:16 am

I want to take my girls for a weeks cruise down the Nile at Easter. I want to make sure the cruise is not too basic, a little bit of luxury!

Can anyone recommend a company or travel agent?

Thanks. :D

Niki,
are you sure you want a week on the Nile? usually 3 days is enough and everyone seems to come back with stomach upsets and the Nile is incredibly dirty not like the pictures you see. You can book Louise line and upgrade cabins which are great.

Thanks CJ

Maybe we would be better on the Nile just for a few days and some days in a hotel.

You'll need a day to Giza, a day at the museum in Cairo, possibly visit Luxor or Aswan.

Try the following website for lots of info and details. http://www.ask-aladdin.com/whattovisit1.htm

Be advised that when I visited we were part of a group and a few (stupid) girls thought it would be OK to walk around the Cairo museum in shorts and bikini tops. Although not a strict muslim country the girls were harrassed and goggled at by the guards, police and most locals. Some people do not respect other people's cultures

Oh Niki, I do so envy you - one of my "must see" places!!!

I have also heard that "Egypt tummy" is almost unavoidable and one of the main sources is water!! So you are recommended not to eat salad (in case its washed in "dirty water") and also ice cubes - 'cos it may not be made with bottled water. Don't forget the imodium!!!
Tess

ps Can I be one of your "girls"?? PLeeeeease!!!

Hi,
we recently did 10 days in Egypt travelling from Larnaca to Cairo then onwards to Aswan for 4 nights plus 3 nights cruise to Luxor and 2 nights in Luxor before travelling back on the overnight sleeper train to Cairo for our return flight to Cyprus.

I booked the flights independently and used Mr Sherif at www.memphistours.com (based in Cairo). Brilliant service! We would certainly use him again.

The cruise cost $60pp per night, which includes all meals and excursions. Our accommodation in 4* and 5* hotels was $25pp per night & $35pp per night, respectively.

A 7 night cruise takes you from Aswan to Luxor and back or vice versa.

Forget Imodium - get the local tummy tablets when you arrive called Antenal (they are an antibiotic combined medication) and do a much better job.

This was our 5th visit to Egypt and it certainly won't be our last.

Enjoy!

Thanks Twinkle, great info and thanks Julieswell I'll definitely call them.

Tess why can you not go? It's not too far from Cyprus.

The tummy thing is a bit of a worry. You would have thought they would have sorted it out before now. Having said that the worst post hols tummy I ever had was after Turkey! Hubby ended up in hospital - not nice! :? Shame coz I love Turkey.
