Cruise on the Nile

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Probably the best holiday we ever had. One week cruise from Luxor to Aswan and three days in Cairo then back to Luxor for three days. I think it was called President Lines. All the catering staff were Italian trained I believe. Really nice friendly people. If you start to feel ill take the local medicine it works well and quickly, the sights are really amazing, you would never believe the colours of the wall paintings in the tombs unless you see them with your own eyes.. If you get the chance have a trip in a felucca (sailing boat)

The Egyptian food is some of the best I've tasted.

As for what Arabs do with their hands, then its quite obvious from some of the comments I've read here that a number of those who have posted don't know their arse from their elbow!

We've been to Egypt several times and we will certainly be going back. And - I've been ill a couple of times for less than 12 hours each time - all caused by drinking icy cold drinks after being out in over 110 degrees.

Avoid alcohol in the daytime and you should be fine.

A fantastic trip but be prepared for the "Sphinx's revenge!!" I do not think you can avoid it, however careful you are. It manifests itself either during your trip or after yopu get home, just when you think you have avoided it.
Do not under any circumstances try ther Egyptian red wine, its terrible and at leats one person has died from drinking it!

Egypt is not to be missed despite the inconveniences :)

I've just got hold of some details for this package. Is the ship ok for older children (12 and 14)? I also thought it would be good to stay a few days in Alexandria?

The sphinx's face is broken (nose actually) 'cos the Baksheesh boys selling models of the sphinx bought a duff batch with broken noses and had to break of the real sphinx's nose!

Another true story for friday!!

I would think it would be OK for children but it's not like a cruise liner, not so much to do on board except watch the world go by and visit the sites when you stop off at the different towns. Children could get "temple fatigue" after they have seen one or two. President lines were 4 star, I believe there are companies that have 5 star boats - perhaps they have more facilities on board. I don't know much about Alexandria except that it used to be one of the most prosperous ports in the Med until the 1950s when Nasser kicked all the Greeks and Jews out and it fell into decline. Google it.

Some cruise lines used to only let children of 12 and over travel on board them - that was a number of years ago, so perhaps things may have changed as tourism to Egypt declined after 1997.

We used Presidential Nile cruises and there were no young children on our ship in May....
