Unification, no thanks.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but those Cypriots living on this island, that are 50 yrs plus, speak greek and turkish. I only say this as I have come across it a few times. Those Cypriots that are of greek desent (my old neighbours where i used to live in nicosia), would tell me stories of how they would speak turkish and greek and how they used o have turkish lira too. Now, they lived happily on this island pre 1974 with the mixed culture, even with the pre-history between turkey and greece and they have been able to put the past behind them and get on with life.

So why, is it the younger generation that can not get over the raid or the divide? It strikes me as odd due to it being the generation who were not alive or living in the country at the time of 74, who are the ones stilla rguing over it.

Not picking a fight, just trying to understand a culture that I can only see an outside view on and one that isn't taking either sides but sitting on a fence.

Beth it is clear that you have been reading only Greek history because you have started with the year 1974 and have not read about what happened before.

The period between 1963 and 1974 was the best time for the Turkish Cypriots...We got on like a house on fire...Literally.....Our houses were burned to the ground by the village load. We were forced into 3% of our own country and then the nice GCs thought that we should have some music while we starved so they made a recording of a song especially for us. They then played that song through loud speakers because they knew that it was hard for us to travel without a UN escort for fear of our lives. They taunted us that Turkey did not come to save us as we thought they would. They helped us with our health through not allowing us saturated fats in our diets because that would have shortened our lives by decades..In fact they stopped giving us food all together to help the process along. Why wait until you are old...Kill the babies when they are young and you will not have the problems later....

Please read a bit more about the subject......

He was able to participate but he chose to scam everyone knowing that he would gain entry into the EU without it and then be in a stronger place to threaten Turkey and the TCs that he forgot....

The people didn't vote on five drafts, they voted on the final proposal, which was the only one that was put forward after 30 years of Turkey's denial to aknowledge the problem. I sincerely believe that in 5 years it will be the TCs that will want reunification and the GCs will want partition. The way Turkey changed her tune just when she realized the RoC was going to become a full EU member was too blatant for the Greek Cypriots to ignore, for once in 30 years they had the upper hand and had Turkey cornered, it would be impossible for them to accept the first plan given to them when they knew perfectly well that they could reject it and wait for an improved one, because that's exactly what will happen. Turkey HAS to get rid of the burden of being a country that occupies foreign land.

Turkey asked the "RoC" to talk to the people that the GCs had wronged and whom they had a contract with. The "RoC" refused because then they would have to live with the realities on the island. Go back to the constitution was what she said and if you want to change it then do it legally with your partner. The "RoC" and Greece decided to play games in stead and try to show that Turkey was responsible for all the bad deeds done on the island...The UN then started the talks for them and with them....The Annan Plan was negotiated with the people involved and should have been taken seriously. Tpap did not and carried on playing tricks. It was not a matter of rejecting it but of proper involvement and negotiations. The GCs decided to push their luck.

Fine, so the Annan plan was rejected and so partition is now the only way for you. I honestly hope you get what you want. Maybe partition is the best solution after all. And then, when the majority of the TCs will be practically living in the RoC because they will all be working there, when Turkey will stop sending money and soldiers, when the Euro will become the unofficial currency of the TC state, then it will be you, the ones who now want partition, that will be asking for reunification. Unless of course you become a Turkish province and be denied even those indirect benefits of neighbouring an EU member.

You all blame the GCs for rejecting the Annan plan. I never saw anyone taking responsibility for 30 years of rejections by your side

What rejections...Whilst talks were going on?????Negotiations is a series of rejections and agreements...Shame the "RoC" took every opportunity to walk away from the negotiations in the quest for total control. They knew that a plan was being drawn and it had reached it's pinnacle. If they had had the entire Cypriot people at heart then that plan would have been the last but they did not.

As for predicting the future of my people and of our state....I would not be so down hearted that failure is the only option. That I can safely say is wishful thinking on many GC minds.....We have every right and capability of working things out for ourselves and just like any other country we have our allies there and willing to help...

As for unification...We have always been asking for unification...We will not sell our souls for it though or the souls of those that fought for our freedom. Unification was rejected by only one side and that was the "RoC". If they didn't like the terms they should have used the opportunity to have serious talks and not the tricks that were played. Return to the Zurich agreement was met with an OXI and all other settlements were met with an OXI. Surrender to "RoC" bullying was never on the table.

Why did Tpap not negotiate it properly??? Kifeas told us that he did not have enough time    Five fucking drafts and he did not have enough time.....He did have enough time to realise that the whole thing was going to cast the "RoC" 4 billion plus pounds though for their part in the mess......No wonder he was crying.......First Makarios destroys our chances of unity and then Tpap bankrupts us all....Nice going.

What talks?!? With whom?!? Denktash? Wasn't he the one who kept saying that the Cyprus problem was solved in 1974? Wasn't he the one that your people supposedly kept voting for all those years to be your leader and representative? Therefore, weren't all Turkish Cypriots AGAINST unification from 1974 up to 2004? Or wasn't Denktash actually voted by the TCs but appointed by Turkey who was conducting fake elections in the "TRNC" for 20 years? It's either one or the other zan, either your people were always supporting unification, as you said, but were ruled by a dictator appointed by Turkey, or they were against unification and were therefore voting for a partitionist to represent them. Which one is it?

I asked you to dig up some tc articles and put them up to back up your claims...you refuse and you rather talk nonsence...what can I say...

dig up what the papers said at the time...then we will have something concrete to talk about...

your refusal to do so, is becoming your undoing...
