Cyprus in December

Postby macmaccat » Mon Oct 08, 2007 1:11 pm

Hello

I'm new on here and have a question that i'm hoping someone can answer for me.

my husband and i are coming over to limassol in december to have a look around at different areas and heritage school. this trip has replaced our annual trip without the kids for a bit of christmas shopping, and i was wondering what cyprus is like in december.

we are over on 6th-9th december., will the xmas decorations be out and will the shops be christmassy? or does this all happen a bit later in cyprus?

also we are looking at staying in either the meridian or four seasons hotel. does any one have any experience of either of these?

thanks in advance.

Christmas is Christmas. Commercial and crazy. Aradippou municipality is already dusting off their decorations for the roadabouts.

I've stayed at both hotels. Le Meridien is rather clinical and I feel they should up date the reception as it is rather dated. The spa however is wonderful. It's set back away from the main road. We had suites when we've stayed there and they have always been exceptional. 4 Seasons is nice and within walking distance to the main tourist areas. I found the majority of patrons were Eastern European. Hawaii Grand is a nice choice, their Japanese restaurant is wonderful. Forget Aphrodite Hills. Great hotel but way out of the way. St Raphaels I didn't like. :(

Check if the hotels are open as some refurbish and open just before christmas.

Cyprus doesn't celebrate Christmas as much as the UK, Easter is the big one.

There is still plenty to do here in Limassol so you won't be disappointed.

Happy Christmas :D :D :D

I stayed in the Meridian last December and it was wonderful. Warm during the day but chilly at night. The hotel was lovely and the decorations fabulous but it was boxing day when we arrived.

I havn't stayed in the 4 Seasons so can't compare.

My 2 are also going to The Heritage.

The last time I was in Cyprus in December was in 1966, we went on exercise 'Ambrosia' it peed it down all night and there was my gorgeous 19 year old Wife tucked up in bed in Limassol.

The shot was at our Regimental Band Christmas dinner in the Calypso Bar on Archbishop Makarios Avenue Limassol December 1966, don't know what it is now but it was a favourite music venue where we played in those days and quite respectable.

The fourseasons is lovely!!!!!!!

Dunno about Limassol but Nicosia likes to dress up the town for xmas, they even have the little parks and such set up as festive homemade sales and such, little concerts for kids etc

During the time I lived in Cyprus in December the shops in Limassol open on Sundays and the atmosphere was great. Even with a little (Noddy) train going along Anexertisias, there were groups of singers around and even if you didn't shop it was a good place to walk.
The roundabouts always did a good display of lights but now with the super-new Highway I guess that will no longer happen.
Enjoy your stay and have a good Christmas.

Many thanks for the nice comment, we've had 41 years together and spent our Ruby wedding anniversary in Cyprus last year.

Does the sun still shine most of the time ?

Or should we expect Grey clouds and rain
