What do the Greek Cypriots really think of us

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Sophie, the only thing wrong with living here are the uneducated Cypriots, the Cypriots educated away from Cyprus hve a different attitude, and they are treated much the same as Brits.
It is a shame because of the influx of money due to selling land they have become arrogant and greedy. and lets not forget if it was'nt for us brits they would still be riding their donkeys as they were 30 years ago. :D

OK !!!
So she is a big fat , ugly unshaven guy with a huge beer belly not having taken a bath for the last three years.
So what ? Most of you are not just as the same ,pretending to be somebody else hidden behind anonymity .
Can anybody than few of us prove who they really are ?
As far as for the British ,which by the way i really like, i am sorry to say that if it was not for you the British ,yes, we might have been still riding donkeys but at least we would have been doing so in a united and free country !

Probabaly meant "Latymer School" one of the best schools in England here in Edmonton in the London Borough of Enfield.
Enfield has one of if not the biggest cypriot population outside of the island.
She did'nt claim that she attended, but anyone who did go to that school, I bet you they would'nt leave it spelling wrong.

Sophia1 wrote:I made it my dream to live in Cyprus 2 years ago, I was 19 years old. Could not wait to have the bright blue sea and sunshine everyday. To cut the long story short, It was not what I dreamed it would have been. I started working for a shipping company, every one in there although they were well educated, there mentality was the age of 2, they never new how to say please or thank you, they thought they would treat me like a waitress but set them straight with that and also cleaning there windows? excuse me? any way yeah dream on pal. The locals were always miserable and always looked like they thought they were somewhere in London or New York pushing into ques and saying "sorry Im in a rush" like ain't every one? Oh they were sometimes nice to me until I disputed there price tags which were ridiculously STUPID... People I use to meet always use to call me CHARLIE? Well I can think of a few things to say if I was not so nice, or at work when I use to do well there response was well done you little English Product.. Well sorry if I was bought up with RESPECT and also have RESPECT for others, its not my fault I was bought up to have a T.V or Computers, good manners its so obvious they still have a MASSIVE COMPLEX about us English born Cypriots. They may have some new stuff but there mentality is clearly still like 1900's.. My father before he came to live in the UK was a Police Man and so his father before him and he said that he does not know what the fuss is about disliking the British because they use to always be kind and helpful when they were on the colony yes OK apart from some rules but listening to why, it was a wise decision and yes they made a mistake don't every one make mistakes? spoke to a few and they are still regreting what has happened but like all of us they were following orders, so let it go already aint we christian? well some of us still are and they did well for Cyprus, as you can see they still are. I do not think much of politics I never have but now Cyprus is in the E.U I think they should stop being so racist and start catching up with the rest of the human race. I do love Cyprus it is a beautiful Island but that is what it is a small Island. I wonder what the parents teach the children about us, there just like you sweet child of mine, they were just born in another country? NO!! They are ENGLISH people, hate hate hate, bully bully bully... Well any way I ended up coming back home to uk with a lesson, Greek Cypriots are nothing like us and although they can try, they will never be like us, they have been bought up to hate and disrespect everyone other than Greek Cypriots which I think is sad.

I will finish this by saying SOD YOU LOT I know who I am, I am a Greek Cypriot and I am proud of the way I have been bought up, unlike you lot that have been dragged up so get your own lives and stop trying to copy or try and change ours, that is all you know what to do is just copy!!

I still love Cyprus very much and I always will..

God Bless.. :D

Sorry to read that your time in Cyprus wasnt what you expected and you were forced to return to the UK , the land of third world immigrants !!
My duaghter was also born in the UK , Im a Cypriot and her mother English . When she first arrived at the age of 17 , today is her 30th Birthday , she encountered problems in adjusting to local life , one lesson she learned was that she needed to learn the language .Up to then she spoke no Greek at all. As far as encountering Cypriots who are "taught" to hate the English according to your post , well she has not yet met anyone that felt this way , may I also say tham my own English wife who looks very English has never in more than 30 years of visiting and staying for up to 6 months in Cyprus encountered any animosity because of being English. There are two types of English Cypriots , those that come to Cyprus and are prepared to go along with the locals and those who are not. As far as manners are concerned let us remember that the words thank you please and sorry alone do not constitute good manners .Had you been prepared to stand your own ground , take no bullshit from the locals , show them that you too is a Cypriot , accept that Cyprus is a different country to the UK I'm certain you would have still been in Cyprus,
but judging from your post I'm lead to believe that you were constantly referring to the UK and how things are done here in comparison to Cyprus , constantly moaning and not accepting that things in Cyprus are done the Cypriot way. When in Rome do as the Romans do .
I have posted before that the majority of Cypriots who emigrated to the UK prior to 1974 , fell into one category , just as I did. Poor , little education mostly from villages in search of a better life with little knowledge of their own language ie the Greek language. They were however decent hard working family orientated folks who persevered and on the whole improved their lives. Returning to Cyprus after many years in the UK requires some adjusting , had you been prepared to "blend" in , take no nonsense from them , just as my daughter did and still does , then Im certain that like my daughter who wouldnt dream of coming back to the land of third world immigrants , so would you not want to come back to this once wonderful country.

you remind me of my ousin he has two perants rom cyprus, but he learned to hate cyprus because he was all his life in uk, to him i imagine its weird over here we do things and think very different to english people..

why put how GC think of us if you are a GC?

its a shame people who run away from cyprus after or before the war, the population would be much larger if all the people who left came back i bet thers more gc's living in london and usa and other countries then there is in cyprus they end up speaking better english and not knowing the greek language its sad.

anw sorry to hea u had such a bad experience, the other day i spoke to a lady in lemesos she was from brighton she has been here 3 months working ina bar now, she is loving it doesent want to leave

Sophia,

I love your story, and absolutely agree!
I must admire your style how you write it, without useles insults etc. I wouldn't probably manage it :-(

Dont worry about insults from such an asholes like Phoenix, or Get Real! They dont know what you are speking about. They are not even able to realize these thing which annoy us everyday, every hour, every shopping, every minute while driving... Why? Because it is standard behavior for them.
Maybe we should respect it as it is - as a part of their culture. (despite of the fact the the almost rest of the world knows how to say please, and what the custmommer service means)

Why is it that people like my self who left Cyprus many years ago , my self in 1961 , still consider Cyprus to be the best place in the world . It is because the minute we get on the plane we put our watch 2 hours ahead , and on arriving in Cyprus we wear our Cypriot hats !!! We criticize the stupid drivers , and I personally moan at the wonderful weather and
and the wonderful local cultures. If someone doesn't say please or thank you , tough , I don't give a sh. I just don't say thank or please to them end of story.
I think many British Cypriots carry a heavy chip on their shoulders , they somehow believe that the locals are "inferior " to them and ought to stand to attention when a Charly goes by !! Well they do to me !!! I bloody well tell them to in Cypriot slung , Re stathou pano ama sou milo men ise telia garos !!! It works all the time !
I wouldnt say that to GR though , he will probably shoot me !!

I've been here for 3 months now and really haven't experienced negativity at all. All my Cypriot friends are terrific, warm people with a good sense of humour. Not so sure about the Russians here tho, they seem rather arrogant!

OK so the driving can be a bit dodgy but only by a small minority and you do have to make sure people know that you live in Cyprus to pay 'Cyprus prices' but I love it! :D

I’ve lived in Cyprus for five years now and love every minute of it!

Like anything, you get out what you put in. We have great Cypriot friends that would do anything for us but we’ve made an effort to be part of the village since we got here.

There are all too many whinging expats that just want to change everything as soon as they arrive. Its no wonder that they are treated poorly by the locals and it is inevitable that some of that negativity will rub off on the rest of us.

I’m in the UK right now for a week and it completely sucks – I can’t wait to get back ‘home’ again next Monday.
