A lot of it is ordinary household refuse - old tin cans, potato peelings etc. -in blue plastic refuse bags.

This tests my powers of comprehension to the limit. OK, I can understand people dumping old fridges and armchairs in the countryside because they are too big for the municipality to collect. But, ordinary household refuse is collected on regular basis provided you place it in plastic bags and deposit these in the appointed place. There isn't even a rule as I believe there is in the UK about having to put it out on collection days only. Here somebody has placed their refuse in one of these bags and instead of just putting it in the cubby hole beside the street, has gone to the trouble of lugging it out to the edge of the town to dump it there.

Can anybody possible explain what motive they would have for doing this?

I wish that somebody could answer your question but i am afraid nobody can except maybe Mr. Mikellides. It does not make sense to dispose regular garbage miles away from the ordinary collection points which are right outside each person's doorstep. However it happens !!!!

Name and shame

Postby Tim Drayton » Tue Feb 03, 2009 4:02 pm

While out on my daily walk, I decided to bring back a bag full of rubbish from the countryside to put out for collection with the rest of my refuse. Amongst this rubbish was an envelope addressed to:

MR R EDWARDS
THE POPLARS
FULLBECK LOWFIELD
GRANTHAM
LINCS
NG32 3JF

This shows that British residents of Cyprus and not only locals are happy to dispose of their waste in the countryside.

I don't know if Mr Edwards follows this forum, but if he does I would be delighted to know why he cannot dispose of his old envelopes by putting them out with the rest of his refuse for the municipality to collect.

I am sorry Tim; even though I am against all this rubbish being dumped, there was absolutely no need for you to divulge the whole of this man's address - you never know of any repercussion owing to your actions! You could have just stated 'A Mr Edwards from Grantham' and still made your point! God forbid a stray envelope ever escaping from my rubbish and landing in your path! (hypothetical actually as all my paper goes for recycling - and anything holding personal information is shredded beforehand!)

It is a Cypriot decease , homes that are the envy of the world , sparkling clean rich looking spacious and yet the bloody streets outside are a disgrace.
My daughters house is one of 4 houses in a cul-de-sac in Limassol , high up in Ayios Athanasios , the street is spotless minus some building materials cluttering the street , the house opposite is almost finished and on my last visit I reprimanded a worker who threw an empty packet of cigarettes in the street , alas he was a foreigner didn't understand much Greek or English .
I hate to see discarded empty cans or cigarette packets , food packaging in our lovely Limassol , especially at the molos where the rubbish accumulates and is such an eye sore .When I retire I shall make it my hobby embarrasing those that discart trash in the roads , as well as those who drive like maniacs making a lot of noice as they speed away , but maybe I wouldnt live long enough to enjoy my retirement. !!
