A big "Well Done" to you if you bothered to organise getting the trash cleaned up...

Shame if all you did was photograph it . . :(

New update : Lady's Mile revisited .

After one year at least 95% of the hundreds of the "garbage spots" have been cleaned in that area that includes the eucalyptus forest of Fassouri. Of course there are some questions concerning their cleaning techniques and the government long term policies.
In few days I will be visiting other areas as well.

Experience teaches that people will go to the trouble to cart heavy garbage to dump it if

a)the municipality will not pic it up and/or

b) the charge for pick up is unreasonably high

Nikita ,
Thanks for commenting.
You are absolutely right. Of course there are other reasons as well ;
a.Laziness.
b.Unwillingness to obey certain rules.
c.The inability of the municipality/state to enforce any existing rules.
d.The "I do not care, it is not my specific duties" attitude of the 99.99% of the governmental employees.
e.The lack of an effective large item/garbage removal scheme by the municipalities.
f.Our lack of environmental consciousness.
g.The relatively difficult access to a proper garbage disposal site especially after our EU membership.

Of course the are also other factors as well.
A.

P.S. The http://dailytrash.fotopic.net/ has been visited by few thousand active people ,many of them commented either publicly or in PM.In addition articles were written about it in many local papers and it was discussed in some radio shows.

What amazes me is the fact that some people stuff their cars/vehicles with rubbish bags (which must pong!) and travel with said bags to either dump the rubbish or use a bin far from their homes. Why? :?

I have a regular walk on the fringes of Limassol and am saddened to see the the way ever growing piles of rubbish are accumualting all over the place. I sometimes bring back a carrier bag full of stuff that can go into the local recycling scheme, but this is obviously just a drop in the ocean. A lot of this rubbish is the sort of stuff that the municipality collects if you leave it out, so why do people go to the extra trouble of taking out to the edges of the city and dumping it?

By the way, in Agios Athanasios we have three rubbish collections per week and they will take absolutely anything that fits into a plastic rubbish bag, with no limits.

I have just been out and examined some of this rubbish that I described above.

A lot of it is ordinary household refuse - old tin cans, potato peelings etc. -in blue plastic refuse bags.

This tests my powers of comprehension to the limit. OK, I can understand people dumping old fridges and armchairs in the countryside because they are too big for the municipality to collect. But, ordinary household refuse is collected on regular basis provided you place it in plastic bags and deposit these in the appointed place. There isn't even a rule as I believe there is in the UK about having to put it out on collection days only. Here somebody has placed their refuse in one of these bags and instead of just putting it in the cubby hole beside the street, has gone to the trouble of lugging it out to the edge of the town to dump it there.

Can anybody possible explain what motive they would have for doing this?
