Fish died in their thousands in the Athalassa Park lake after the tornado last week. The reason?

The trash damped in the park by Cypriots were carried by the tornado into the lake causing loss of oxygen and suffocation.

We are a miserable lot but we can always blame the Turks or the imperialists or "others" for our misfortunes.

That's an exaggeration... :)

Trash came from parts unknown... it was a tornado after all!

You are indeed...

1. When fish are deprived of oxygen they die. All of them!

2. Trash came from the park itself, according to the Environment Commissioner Theopemptou.

3. Of course I am miserable and so should feel everyone that really cares for this place.

4. Visit any school yard, preferably of a lyceum. You will find the bins shiny clean and the yard littered with all sort of trash.

I READ THAT MOST OF THE FISH KILLED WAS THE RESULT OF FLOOD WATERS (torrential rain) BRINGING IN LOTS OF SILT WHICH DESTROYED THE BOTTOM FEEDERS - THE CATFISH.

Sorry about the caps lock.

That is what it said in the Cyprus Mail, but from the pictures on the TV there was a whole load of rubbish floating on top of the water, but this doesn't appear to be what killed the fish.

My sons used to go fishing there years ago, which was probably highly illegal, but they never caught anything anyway!

I suppose it all adds up. I was pointing out that it wasnt only the tornado which caused the deaths of the fish.

Some more trash. There has been a proposal to change the name of Athalassa Avenue (where the park is) to Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue. The motion was proposed by DIKO and was supported by DISI. The courtship has started and who cares if the next presidential election is due in 3 years. Who cares about the Cyprob too! The spolis of power are more important than the fate of a small island, after all, we can all emigrate elsewhere in Europe if it came to the worst.

Absolutely great news to hear that the great man will be honoured and remembered in such a way...

The RoC should also consider constructing many statues of the great patriot, and recognize him as the "great defender of the RoC".

The RoC owes its existence to the man's passionate protection and guardianship...
