I got the impression that most of them were municipal employees or had family connections to the municipality. With this small number of people it was obviously going to be a fairly cosmetic exercise and we cleaned up the verges and pavements along a roughly 400 metre stretch of road. Better than nothing, though.
I completely forgot about this! Well done Tim (and all others) for your efforts.

The young volunteers will continue their attempt to clean-up the whole area( and other areas as well ) with or without the help of the official authorities .In the Eukalyptus Forest "event" the SBA police was there for moral support .
It is worth to mention that the volunteers were mostly young college students doing their summer vacation and some people from countries ranging from Canada to Malaysia .
By the way , Dixan , sponsored the event.

It appears/or not any Cypriots are involved. Thats a shame. Environmental cleenliness should be instilled in the locals and not just depend on foreign students.
I wonder if similar arrangements exist in the north of the island.

Well I picked up a few bits of rubbish on the way to the toilets near Magusa Deniz....
They should start charging for carrier bags like they do n the UK now. Then I might not have to see mile upon mile of them hanging from trees and they might even be harvested by the public if a price was put on them.

Tell me about it. They could at least keep the moat of the castle clean. It is our 'August Lady' after all (Famagusta, August Lady) - the 'Jewel in the Crown'.
