Will the paper ads in our mailboxes ever be banned?

Postby raymanuva » Thu Oct 04, 2007 8:37 pm

Its getting out of control, i mean everyone is going on about environment etc while tonnes of paper is wasted on useless ads which litter roads in every neighborhood. I tried sticking "NO ADS" sticker on my mailbox but that didn't help. Now i heard that CYPRUS POST is actually offering service on delivering ADS door to door... its ridiculous. I opened my mailbox today and probably dozens of ADS fell on the floor. I don't want it, its getting on my nerves... what do i do?

Pile them up, with any other paper, until you have 5 or more kg of unread paper and dump them in a paper-recycling bin.

You won't stop them.

Agreed. I have a huge paper shopping bag every week, which I drop off whenever I'm in Nicosia. Larnaca doesn't recycle paper. Only cans

Larnaca doesn't recycle paper? that is amazing for a civilized country, but yet it doesn't suprise me.

There are no drop off points for any recycling in Larnaca, just the Cans for Kids baskets. Any recycling I collect I have to drive to Nicosia and drop in the Green Dot collection points.

Hmmm. Make a second mailbox and stick a label on both. One to say "Mail" and the other to say "Ads", and put a shredder in the Ads one. :) Perhaps stick a label saying you don't understand greek (even if you do) in greek so don't bother with ads. Might work... Bit like those adverts back in college for welsh lessons. Only in welsh....

Nah, we are all stuffed. We get a lot (that go straight in the bin) and when I went to my accountants today there was literally hundreds all over stairs! Mad. Not so bad the first couple of times. Yep, I do want to know about cheap chairs. But the 100th ad for the same place takes some patience...

Still, better than the dozens of phone calls a day I used to get from salesman back in the UK. You can legally stop them though. Still managed to get automated calls from Disney in Florida though... Quite fun to muck around with them mind...

Cheers

It never ceases to amaze me what trivel things people have to complain about, just put paper in a bag and give it to someone with a coal fire to burn during the winter months. Now that can't be that difficult can it :D

Cut them up in strips and make paper chains for Christmas decorations, keep the kids amused and save money at the same time !!
