What can Turkish Cypriots do for Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Speaking the language is OK but it is so much faster to learn to understand it. It is a whole linguistics thing and I am no teacher but I have seen situations where people speak their own language and understand the other's language.

In our situation it offers the added advantage that there is no patriotic loss in learning to "speak" the "enemy lingo", but by understanding it you cn keep up with the other sides public opinion through media and politics. So there is a patriotic advantage, no one can put on over on you.

Nikitas those who builted the concord did not really understand the language. They only learned the technical terms.

Nikitas wrote:Zan, it was what was happening during it that interests me. If it is such a choking experience for Turkish Cypriots to live in a Greek dominated culture how come they managed to do just that during the British rule? Most of the civils service was Greek run, and Greek was spoken then as it is now. Why was it not intolerable then?

Greek "run" at the time did not mean Greek "rule" they had to abide by the rules and regulations of the rulers of the country at the time. Greek rule now would mean that they can do what they couldn't manage to do from 1963 to 1974.

The British did not hate us TCs and didn't want to genocide us. The GCs did and do hate us enough to have wanted to genocide us TCs and still hate us enough to to have another go should they get to be the sole rulers of Cyprus.

One more thing, Greek was not spoken in the whole of Cyprus then and it is not spoken all over Cyprus today either. Then, as it is now, there were hell of a lot of TCs who could not speak the Greek language.

In a Greek ruled country all TCs would be forced to learn Greek and would not have a choice.

Even the most uneducated TC person who could not read and write Greek or Turkish, spoke Greek up until 1963. Only after 1963 the young TC's were not exposed to the Greek language as it had been for the last 400 years or so.

Where the hell have you been Hiyar Dayi.???

You are a liar and your lies can be proven without any problems Kikapoo. The only ones who could speak Greek were those living mostly in villages where Greeks were in the majority. In Turkish side of Nicosia there were thousands who could not speak Greek to save their lives.

I personally know many, many TCs who were born in the 40's-50's who can't speak at all.

Go dig up some other lies kikapoo, you ain't getting nowhere with this one.

Hiyar Dayi,

I bet your parents spoke beautiful Greek and most certainly your Grand Parents and your Grand Grand Parents.

Stop making a fool of your self or else I will do a Kik-a-poo on you.

He himself either lived in greece for some time or associated too much with mainland Greeks. He knows mainland greek language better than anyone in this forum, I watched some mainland Greek expressions he used in atca they are all unique.

Yia sou patrida Eric

The GCs are bloody lucky to have TCs as their neighbours. We're probably the most moderate Muslims EVER. Imagine if we were Iraqi Cypriots and if motherland Iraq invaded Cyprus...had that been the case then today it would be the GCs trying to partition Cyprus!

We have a bloody good education system (better than GC one as far as I know). We're a very talented, creative and hard working people, but just like in the instance of football while there is a Cyprus problem we are not able to get recognition for anything including our talents . The ones who do make it, make it all the way though...take for instance designer Hussein Chalayan who has now been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)!!! While I was working on the Vivinne Westwood retrospective at the V&A one of the curators showed us V&A's Hussein Chalayan collections! They have soooooooo many of his pieces stored away for the future and he has a BIG spot reserved for him in the history of fashion for his contribution.

The GCs need not worry because theres a lot of skilled TCs abroad who are just waiting for the green light so we can come home to represent our country. :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

More than anything I hate this attitude the GCs have where they want to try to convince us that they're the best and we're just crap! It couldn't be further from the truth. If we had the opportunities the GCs have had we would be waaaaaaay further than the GCs..in EVERY aspect.

Talking to GCs is sometimes like talking to Z List celebrities. You know the kind that REALLY think they're "ALL THAT". Even when they try telling us how they're indigenous and we're not  ....sorry but I'm quite sure that MOST GCs (like TCs) can trace their roots back to....

A BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if you've been in Cyprus for 18000 years NOTHING will ever change the simple fact that you ALSO came on A BOAT from ELSEWHERE so while you ARE indigenous you are NOT indigenous in the sense that you try make out....(as though you grew on trees)!!!!!! :P :P :P

I will add more to this thread tonight as I've run out of time! Have a nice day peoples. :D

I hate to break the news to you but back in 1974 Turkey gave the TC community 38% of stolen Cypriot territory to roam in, thousands of "free" homes with contents, businesses, machinery, the lot! It was like you won Lotto except multiply that by a factor of 1,000 yet today...

Even when they try telling us how they're indigenous and we're not  ....sorry but I'm quite sure that MOST GCs (like TCs) can trace their roots back to.... A BOAT...

I think we've covered the definition of "indigenous" enough times so far so that even you would learn it so the next time you visit Istanbul go to the town square, grab a loudspeaker and shout out in Turkish... "You are not indigenous because you came here in a boat so there!" ...and I'm sure they'll explain it to you a lot better than I can.
